  Bilingual MSW Student Extern

  Starting Salary: Unpaid Internship

  POSITION SUMMARY: This is an outpatient clinic offering a hybrid of in person and telehealth services including clinical assessments and mental health treatment primarily for children/youth 6 to 18 years old, as well as caregivers of youth in our services on a weekly or biweekly basis. The team provides family, individual, and group therapy. Team culture includes a collaborative and supportive learning environment for clinicians seeking to provide services to underserved communities. The team has a commitment to addressing cultural and implicit biases to improve the quality of services. Student placements have the opportunity to learn and join in all team activities during their time. There is a minimum request of 10 hours per week (15 to 20 hours preferred) with a minimum of a 9-month commitment from start to finish of the internship. Most positions follow the academic year (Aug/Sept to May/June) but other timeframes are acceptable. Current availability is for September 2023-June 2024

  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  Following an initial period of training and shadowing opportunities, the position will ultimately participate in all core clinical services offered through our Child & Family Outpatient Services. These duties will be tailored to the developmental level and training interests of individual students and may include any to all the essential job functions listed below.

  Provide diagnostic evaluations, crisis interventions, individual, family, and group therapy for a caseload of individuals and families receiving weekly therapy. Caseload size varies depending on students’ experience and needs. Provide case management and coordination services to consumers as needed or make appropriate referrals to ensure basic needs are met both to internal and external resources Develop treatment plans; monitor treatment progress and follow-up at disposition times. Collaborate with youth and families on safety assessments and safety planning. Assist youth and families with social/emotional/psychological development and problematic behaviors that cause difficulties with school, home, or community. Assess level of care and acuity to identify the most appropriate and least restrictive level of care. Collaborate with other clinicians on the team, psychiatrists, nurses, service coordinators and other professionals within the Child and Family department and the larger organization. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records consistent with Medicaid and organizational standards. This includes a 24 hour turnaround time for notes. Weekly team meetings are optional depending on schedules. Individual supervision weekly required. Group supervision up to 2x monthly optional depending on schedules. Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing. Perform other duties as assigned. Education: BA in Psychology, Social Work, Family Therapy or other related human services field required. Enrollment and good standing to start 2nd year for Masters in Psychology, Social Work, or Family Therapy required.

  Experience: 1+ year of experience in direct interactions with young people and/or their families preferred.

  Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency required.

  Student Supervisor’s Credential Level:

  LCSW

  Typical Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach, drive, operate standard office equipment such as phone, computer, facsimile, copier/printer, and other business machines. Ability to learn new technology systems like electronic health records (EHR) software. Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.

  Typical Mental Demands: Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Must be open and able to develop self-care practices and work to address personal experiences to address any vicarious trauma or needs that may arise.

  Working Conditions: Afternoon time for appointments is essential and potentially working until 6 or 7 pm one or more days of the week. No on call or crisis work outside of business hours. Location of current opening is at 1405 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO 80118.
