JOB SUMMARY
An Automation Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the fixture development and automation team for the test lab. The fixture development and automation team complete designs of the mechanical systems, electrical systems, and controls functions of new and existing test lab fixtures. Developing mechanical mechanisms, generating mechanical assemblies, developing fixture function algorithms, programming (PLCs, Robots, etc.), wiring, and debugging are the normal tasks that are done on a daily basis. The manager will also need to coordinate with IT to connect fixtures and data acquisition equipment to the network.
RESPONSIBILITIES / SKILLS
Delegate tasks to the Automation Engineers and Automation Specialists.
Prioritize task to make sure test fixtures are completed on time for product testing.
Design mechanical systems for new, or modify existing, fixtures for testing.
Develop automated fixtures to replicate aspects of actual use of products.
Design and specify electrical components and controllers for custom automated test fixtures.
Coordinate with other engineers and product management to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness are achieved.
Establish drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for newly established test fixtures.
Manage individual project budgets and schedules and routinely report progress.
Ability to accept design feedback and improvement suggestions and brainstorm with others - Adhere to good manufacturing and good documentation practices.
Lead, advise, and train more junior engineers.
Ability to coordinate with outside suppliers.
Coordinate and assists corporate IT staff with application and installation testing when required for data collection integration into corporate infrastructure in conjunction with Automation Engineer development efforts.
Manages or delegates routine administrative duties as required to support staff goals and objectives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS in ME, EE, Automation, or Related Field or equivalent experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of automated equipment
Preferred 3 years of experience in a test environment.
Management experience preferred.
Expert Knowledge in 3D CAD software, Solidworks or NX preferred.
Experience with National Instruments, Allen-Bradley, and Mitsubishi PLCs and programming
Experience in HMI Programming
Experience with Ignition or other SCADA preferred
Experience with LabView preferred
Mechanically inclined, strong problem-solving skills, hands-on individual
Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to travel 5%
U.S. Citizen

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Maintain stationary position around 50% of time for computer work.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on occasion.
Regular talking and hearing.

Occasional stooping and bending.
