Position Summary:
Plan and execute audit and advisory projects focusing on: (1) evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting, (2) ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and Company policies, and (3) developing & implementing process improvement opportunities / operational efficiencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Evaluate and test internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX 404). Key activities include but are not limited to:Documenting Company processes (flowcharts & narratives)Identifying points of riskEvaluating the design and testing the operating effectiveness of internal controls, including manual, IT-dependent, and IT application controls
Preparing test of control documentation in accordance with auditing standardsCommunicating and articulating findings with stakeholdersEvaluate and test shipboard and shoreside controls and processes and ensure compliance with accounting and operating policies. In addition, use data analytics to support findings and partner with Management to develop, recommend, and implement innovative process improvements.Assist in carrying out enterprise-wide risk assessments and collaborate with Management to determine the appropriateness of mitigating activities addressing strategic, financial, compliance, and operational risks.Leverage creativity and intrapreneurial mindset to re-engineer and improve business and IT processes. Furthermore, seek out and find ways to incorporate technology and tools to make continuous improvements. (Examples include building Power BI / Tableau dashboards or automating routine processes with Alteryx or bots.)Serve as an objective auditor and trusted advisor maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards.Perform other duties as an employee of the Company as necessary. A Master's degree or equivalent (in Business Administration, Accounting, Computer/Management Information Systems, Data Analytics) plus one to two years related work experience and/or training; or, an undergraduate degree plus two or more years of related work experience and/or training.Work experience at a Big 4 accounting / consulting firm preferred.General understanding of accounting & finance concepts and an advanced understanding of audit methodology.Professional certification preferred (I.E., CPA, CIA, CISA).Proficient with Microsoft Office products (i.e, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook) and data analysis tools (i.e., Power BI, Tableau).Passport or other documentation which will allow unlimited travel into and out of the U.S. (mainly for purposes of shipboard audits or other international site-visits).Professional work references from previous employers.
Knowledge and Skills:
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common industry journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write reports for distribution to senior Management that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to the team, senior management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITY - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.OTHER SKILL AND DISCIPLINES Proficiency in applying internal auditing standards, procedures and techniques. Proficiency in accounting principles and techniques. Proficiency means the ability to apply knowledge to situations likely to be encountered and to deal with them without extensive recourse to technical research and assistance.An understanding of management principles is required to recognize and evaluate the materiality and significance of deviations from good business practice. An understanding means the ability to apply broad knowledge to situations likely to be encountered to recognize significant deviations, and to be able to carry out the research necessary to arrive at reasonable solutions.Must possess an appreciation for the fundamentals of such subjects as accounting, economics, commercial law, taxation, finance, quantitative methods, and information technology. An appreciation means the ability to recognize the existence of problems or potential problems and to determine the further research needed or the assistance required.
