The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Athletic Operations Intern to support the Facility and Game Operations unit.
The Athletic Operations Intern is responsible for the management of assigned sports and facilities in addition to supporting the unit as needed. The ideal candidate will be organized, have good communication skills, and always striving to learn and improve. The day-to-day schedule will be set as dictated by the needs of the Athletics Department. Work will on occasion be reviewed in an effort to receive feedback and direction. This position requires a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours as assigned. The Athletics Operations Intern will abide and adhere to all NCAA, ACC, and University rules and regulations.
Roles/Responsibilities:
Support the Athletic Facilities and Game Operations staff in the preparation and execution of all athletic facilities
Assist with credential and parking pass creation and distribution
Plan and order game day staff meals
Game Management
Serve as main game manager of one spring Olympic sport and one fall Olympic sport.
Manage and communicate with game officials, PA announcer, and official scoring personnel.
Coordinate game day operations with visiting team prior to their arrival and throughout the event while serving as the visiting team liaison.
Supervise game day support staff and scorer’s table personnel.
Serve as secondary event and game management contact for two major sports.
Assist with football game day event management items.
Manage scheduling of ball crew for all required home athletic events.
Coordinate facility rentals for external groups.
Create contracts and quotes, event execution and staffing, final invoicing.
Assist with post season ACC or NCAA Tournaments.
Facility Operations
Assist with day-to-day operations at all athletic facilities.
Rotate facility(ies) weekly for walkthroughs and report back to the full-time staff for the facility.
Other duties as assigned.
Expectations:
Ability to work a flexible work schedule to cover sports events as assigned.
January 1 2024 – May 31 2024 with the potential to be extended to December 31 2024.
In office 10-20 hours per week (hours can be flexible).
Additional assigned sporting events on nights and weekends.
$15 per hour, max 1500 hours per year.
Opportunity for additional compensation working external events.
Apparel: Office – business casual/Events – khakis & UVA polo.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Education: High school diploma
Experience: Some working knowledge of the sport program to be supported
Licensure: None
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience working in college athletics, event management or facility operations.
Previous experience in college or professional athletics a plus.
Must possess project management skills, with the ability to build and work in teams.
Physical Demands: This is a job that requires some physical activity including lifting objects greater than 40 pounds and shooting cameras for extended periods in addition to sedentary desk work.
