The Bioanalytical associate Scientist II, as part of Local Delivery Translational Sciences (LDTS) at the Irvine, California site at AbbVie will develop and perform bioanalytical assays to quantify botulinum toxin proteins in biological fluids and tissues. The Bioanalytical Associate Scientist II will collaborate with colleagues in Clinical Pharmacology, Pre-Clinical Safety, and other Research areas to address key project questions, especially related to biodistribution and pharmacokinetics, for botulinum toxin, and aesthetics therapeutic areas.
As a member of a small team, and under the mentorship of a supervisor, this individual will develop, and perform quantitative non-regulated large molecule bioanalysis studies for in vitro and in vivo studies, document experiments, prepare formal reports, and present results to project teams. This individual should be a self-starter who is eager to learn and thrives in a collaborative, fast paced environment, with a desire to make an impact by interacting closely with scientists from other disciplines and functional areas.
Responsibilities include:
Under the supervision of a mentor, generate and analyze data in alignment with project goals.
Work on experimental design, troubleshooting, assay optimization and data analysis as needed.
Learn and effectively implement new experimental protocols and/or techniques.
Support a safe, organized, and operational laboratory environment, including coordination of equipment calibration/maintenance, procurement of supplies, etc.
Maintain timely and accurate laboratory records consistent with good documentation practices.
Perform experiments in a select agent laboratory.
Education and experience
A bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Bioanalytical or a related field with 3 or more years of experience or a master’s degree without experience
Knowledge of quantitative ligand binding assays (e.g. ELISAs).
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage different tasks and priorities simultaneously.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies. A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
This position requires the individual to work with and in areas requiring select agents and Toxins access (i.e. Biosafety level 2 laboratories). Access to and use of select agents is regulated by federal policies. Therefore, the candidate must conduct all work activities in compliance with AbbVie internal and applicable regulatory requirements. AbbVie internal requirements include compliance with ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies, requirements and objectives.
Preferred Experience
Hands-on laboratory experiences with basic immunology and biochemistry assays
Experience with relevant technology such as Quanterix/ MSD/ ELISA/Octet, Biacore, assays.
Experience with handling proteins and other biological samples
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Good interpersonal and team skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Efficient in Microsoft programs
