Description of Role
We are looking for investment-minded professionals with global perspective to join the Mumbai BasedCalvert ESG Investment ResearchFunction as an Associate.The role specifically supports the Calvert Research Team
The Research team conducts deep proprietary ESG research leveraging the Calvert Principles for Responsible Investment framework. The team helps to identify companies that are positioned to responsibly lead in secular growth tailwinds, in areas such as, the clean energy transition. The ideal Investment Research Associate will bring subject matter expertise on governance topics and environmental and social issues, along with an understanding of how these issues can impact an investment thesis.
Key responsibilities
As part of Mumbai basedCalvert ESG Investment Researchthe individual is responsible for the following –
Build and maintain models which reflect our materiality matrix for the purpose of differentiating companies and securities based on their ESG performance, identifying ESG key performance indicators that have proven to be most impactful on stock prices and integrate into research framework. Update and maintain models in the teams centralized data base
Use information from data vendors and our proprietary research to analyze, score, rate, and rank companies on their ESG performance. Seek and evaluate sources of information regarding the environmental, social and governance policies and performance of corporations and other issuers of securities
Develop sector agnostic industry company and industry investment thesis. Contribute to original research on secular themes likely to drive long-term value creation in companies or industries
Contribute to our team’s proprietary knowledge of ESG factors and linkage to financial metrics – use the information that is an output of our models to identify opportunities to engage directly with issuers of securities in order to improve their sustainability performance and enhance our returns on the security
Serve as a technical resource to department regarding database resources and tools – strong analytical skills – ability to simplify research processes through utilization of tech, explain technical terms in layman language, link tech output to business useful insights.
Partake in ad hoc research projects. Quick learner who can take on sector agnostic projects that help further our innovative research, with the goal of providing investment useful insights
Experience and Skills
In depth knowledge of the global investment management industry.
The ability to work effectively in a thoughtful, collaborative team environment
Strong communication skills, being able to interface effectively with bright quantitative colleagues as well as non-technical audiences
Thrive in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment
Passion for aligning financial returns with societal impact
Excellent verbal and writing skills in English
Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
Possess attention to detail within the larger context of a complex investment ecosystem
Qualification / Technical Expertise
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree would be a plus) in Accounting, Finance, Business, Science or related fields
Familiar with database creation, maintenance, and manipulation of large datasets
Working knowledge of data science tools (SQL, XML, MATLAB, R, Python, XML, etc.)
3-5 years’ experience in capital markets and investment topics, either through work experience or educational background and familiar with database creation, maintenance, and manipulation of large datasets
Experience with financial tools and databases (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, MSCI)
Experience with programming language is a plus (C/C , Java, etc.)
One year of specialized experience performing the related duties and responsibilities is preferred.
A strong foundation in applied empirical analysis (experimental work in natural sciences, statistics, econometrics, data science) and facility with manipulating numbers, including programming skills
