Responsibilities
Health Research, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist. This is an exciting opportunity to join the prestigious NYS Newborn Screening Program at the Wadsworth Center to assist in performing a pilot study to screen newborns for congenital cytomegalovirus. Data from the pilot study will be used at the national level to understand the benefits and challenges of performing screening for congenital cytomegalovirus. The incumbent will perform and/or assist with accessioning of specimens, extraction of nucleic acid, and polymerase chain reaction to detect viral nucleic acid. The incumbent will enter results into a database, assist with data analysis, assist in quality control tasks and routine laboratory duties.
This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!
This position is expected to last until October 31, 2024.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of research experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a clinical testing environment; professional experience performing qPCR and/or DNA extraction; experience testing samples in high-throughput format; coursework or experience in molecular biology, virology, microbiology, medical technology or genetics.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position expected to last through 10/31/2024. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting is not available.
Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including but not limited to gloves and a lab coat.
