DUTIES: The following are examples of the typical duties performed:
Assumes a leadership role in the school that reflects the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.Demonstrates principled leadership and decision-making.Assists the principal in the overall leadership and management of the school.Serves as the designee in the absence of the principal.Coordinates and/or assists in the scheduling of classes and extra-curricular activities.Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and deals with special cases as necessary.Encourages students to make appropriate decisions in a proactive manner.Assists the principal with the development and implementation of the annual budget.Observes and evaluates staff in conjunction with members of the appraisal team.Assists the principal in implementing and monitoring the curriculum.Coordinates supplies, textbooks, and equipment, conducting inventories, maintaining records, and checking on receipts for such materials.Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and proactive safety drill activities.Monitors students in various settings and supervises after school activities.Coordinates and/or assists with transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and school facilities care and maintenance.Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.Performs such record-keeping and follow-up functions as the principal may direct.Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:
Eligible for and hold, prior to appointment, the Maryland State Department of Education certification for Administrator I.Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience.Prior school-based administrative leadership experience preferred.Knowledge of principles and practices of school administration and staff supervision.Familiarity with the outcomes and indicators of the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.Familiarity with the outcomes and indicators of The Every Student Succeeds Act, The Blueprint for Marylands Future, and other federal and state initiatives.Knowledge of instructional planning, development, and implementation.Knowledge of best practices in reading, mathematics and other content areas.Knowledge of the physical, emotional and social developmental aspects of students - including special needs students.Skill in time management, personal organization, and administrative processes.Skill in the development of effective work teams.Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and their families.Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, and their families.Skill in data analysis, including instructional and behavioral issues.SALARY:Salary based on the Negotiated Agreement Between The Board of Education of Dorchester County and The Dorchester County Administrators and Supervisors Association, A-S II salary scale.The current minimum salary is: $87,475.High School Assistant Principals receive an add-on of $2,750.00 to their base salary. Middle School Assistant Principals receive an add-on of $1,500.00 to their base salary. Elementary School Assistant Principals receive an add-on of at least $500.00 to their base salary. Elementary School Assistant Principals with Title I receive an add-on of at least $1,300.00 to their base salary.This is a twelve (12) month, full-time benefited position.
