OverviewThe Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University (USU) is seeking applicants for a 12-month (fiscal year) tenure-track faculty position in Beef Cattle Extension that will contribute to the Extension (70%), Research (25%), and Service (5%) missions of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (CAAS) at USU. The successful candidate will be responsible for statewide educational programs that focus on the needs of Utah beef cattle producers. Working with Utah's beef cattle industry leaders, the incumbent will help address ongoing and new challenges that impact the profitability of the beef cattle industry in Utah. In addition to conducting educational outreach programs through traditional channels such as seminars, workshops, one-on-one consultations, Extension Fact Sheets, and bulletins/handbooks, newer methodologies should be utilized, such as distance education (e.g., interactive video conferencing) or electronic/social media (e.g., blogs, webinars, developing and expanding online learning courses/tools, etc.) to broaden the impact and reach of Extension training. The incumbent will be expected to remain current with innovations relevant to the beef cattle industry, including interpretation of original research involving reproduction, breeding/genetics, nutrition, management, economics, etc., and determine how such novel information applies to Utah beef cattle producers including cow-calf, purebred, and feedlot operations.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original, applied research in beef cattle production science that complements his/her extension programs and addresses information gaps of particular importance to Utah's beef cattle industry, including disciplines of nutrition, genetics/genomics, breeding, reproduction, cow/calf production, or animal welfare. Research results should be published in refereed journals and Extension or popular press publications. The incumbent will be expected to successfully compete for external funding to support their research and Extension activities.
Service will be expected on relevant departmental, college, university, and industry committees, and the incumbent will serve in an advisory capacity in the management of the USU Beef Center.For question regarding this position please contact Lee Rickord at or 435-797-2195
