  In coordination with the wider Academic & Student Affairs (ASA) Advancement team, this position helps execute a strategic donor relations program to ensure UW delivers on the philanthropic intent of the donor and facilitate work of front-line fundraisers to deepen our relationship with donors and engage them with the impact of their gift. The Development Services Officer will work closely with unit staff members and department advancement teams to highlight and define impactful donor engagement to maximize donor philanthropy and cultivate major gifts. This includes close coordination with and support of scholarship student cohorts.

  The Assistant Director of Scholarship Relations and Stewardship provides advanced project management and coordination for the strategic Donor Experience goals and tactical procedures of the ASA Advancement team by collaborating with multiple campus partners and frontline fundraising staff.

  This work is focused on the pillars of an exceptional donor experience; Gift Services, Stewardship and Impact Reporting, Recognition, and Engagement. This position seeks to enable donors to establish meaningful, and long-term relationships between the University of Washington and donors and facilitates communication with scholarship recipients.

  This position will manage projects, facilitate reporting and communications to demonstrate the impact of scholarships. This position also serves as a central resource for all Academic and Student Affairs constituencies regarding scholar management best practices

  RESPONSIBILITIES: Donor Experience Program Support (40%)

  • Maintain gift acknowledgement process for ASA/EM recurring and regular donors• Manages First time giving acknowledgements• Proactively evaluates, plans and makes recommendations for continued stewardship of major gifts and cultivation of future philanthropy.• Gather information, and content for annual stewardship reporting,• Assist in annual evaluation and audit by DSES director evaluate current scholarship relations and stewardship benchmarks and measurements to evaluate program success.• Provide content for gift acknowledgement, impact reports, and publications featuring donors and major gifts.• Support development officers in Academic and Student Affairs to facilitate their individual stewardship efforts.• Tracking and communication of donor histories, summarizing their contribution impact to Academic and Student Affairs, and contributing to cultivation and stewardship strategies for additional areas of interest to donors. Collaborate with departmental donor relations staff and department administrators to manage a program for acquiring and systematically categorizing impact related narrative content from students, and other campus partners for stewardship purposes. Create and develop reports, project analyses, graphics, spreadsheets, and other reports, as needed.• Liaison between scholarship recipients and awarding staff to ensure timeliness of correspondence and endowment compliance.• Create meaningful relationships and opportunities for engagement between scholarship recipients and donors.

  Event Management (30%)

  • Help refine and implement signature ASA events to engage current students and supporters of the University of Washington in the student and academic life of undergraduate education. This includes large public events with 500+ attendees, such as the Costco Scholarship Breakfast, as well as intimate donor/student meetings.• Help plan, create and implement events that will recognize, cultivate and steward UW donors in collaboration with campus directors, administrators and development officers.• Assist all ASA and alliance unit departments with donor relations efforts, designing communications and engaging events, I.e., Greek Life Reception, Parent and Family Weekend, Celebration, etc.

  Scholarship Cohort Development and Management (30%)

  • Maintain a portfolio of scholar and scholarship alumni cohorts, providing comprehensive programming that promotes retention, engagement, and degree attainment.• Create event concepts related to comprehensive cohort management, including orientation, cultivation and stewardship and develop them in collaboration with Academic and Student Affairs units and Enrollment Management.• Help create, implement, and staff programs that recognize, cultivate scholarship recipients and develop a relationship of advocacy with them.• Help develop and implement cultivation/solicitation strategies for key Academic and Student Affairs donors and prospects.• Instill a culture of philanthropy in current scholarship and alumni scholarship recipients.• Advocate for student wellness and support along their academic journey incorporating an understanding of varied & diverse student experiences with access to education & resources for educational success.

  Other duties as assigned

  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional experience.• Proficiency in using computers. Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the Adobe Suite for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc

  Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

  DESIRED:

  • An understanding of the challenges students face in financing a college education and an ability to articulate these challenges in a compelling fashion are highly desirable.• An understanding of state and federal laws pertaining to diversity/affirmative action is desirable.• Proven ability to work collegially and effectively with development colleagues, school administrators, and external constituencies.• Exceptional ability to organize staff and motivate faculty as well as external advocates and volunteers. High energy level, enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility required.• Skilled in working with data and reports for analytical purposes• Knowledge of development/advancement principles.• Knowledge of UW Development Office policies and procedures, including use of the development database software Tandem (or other CRM). Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.• Must be able to work well in a complex environment with frequently changing priorities; demonstrated ability to work independently and on complex group projects.• Ability to travel periodically; some national travel may be necessary.• Ability to work evening and weekend hours.• Strong commitment to issues of educational equity and diversity.• Experience working with diverse and underserved populations.• Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.   WORKING ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS:

  • This is a hybrid position with onsite workplace in an office environment.
