Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Counseling and Training of the Counseling Center is a full-time, 12 month position that supports the Center's mission: "To support students as they develop as artists, designers, and educators. We recognize students whose flourishing is impacted by social injustices and mental health challenges, and we are committed to utilizing compassion and consciousness to aid students on their journey toward healing and wholeness."
Under the guidance of the Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing the Counseling Center clinical training program, which centers justice and equity and is open to trainees from a variety of programs. The Assistant Director provides direct counseling, assessment, and focused treatment to students and is involved in outreach, training, and consultation services. As part of the Counseling Center leadership team, the Assistant Director works with the Director to provide strategic planning and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Counseling Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Counseling and Wellness
SUPERVISON EXERCISED: Director's designee for administrative, clinical, crisis response, and consultation when the Director is absent or unavailable, or when designated by the Director.
SALARY: $85,000 - $90,000 Commensurate with experience
Position is governed by the APA Collective Bargaining Agreement
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Oversee the Counseling Center clinical training program, which has justice and equity at the core of its developmental framework. This includes the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of clinical trainees in accordance with the program guidelines. Maintain affiliations with diverse clinical training programs to ensure a diverse pool of applications. Assist in equitable and just policy development and implementation. Mentor and guide MassArt's clinical staff in their roles as trainee supervisors. Plan and participate in seminars, case conferences, and other meetings relevant to the training program. With a focus on social justice and equity, provide culturally informed clinical services to all MassArt students. Collect, store, and maintain client records in accordance with state and federal laws and standards of professional ethics so that the highest level of confidentiality may be maintainedAssist the Director to oversee the daily operations of the Counseling Center including case management, outreach both internally and externally, and training and development of clinicians. Provide culturally informed consultation to members of the MassArt community who request support or require input from a mental health expert. Provide regular campus-wide training and workshops as needed, with an emphasis on educating faculty, staff and students to make appropriate referrals to the Counseling and Wellness Center.Attend/assist with College functions of general importance to student body or College (e.g. Orientation, Commencement, etc.).Serve as liaison to other offices/departments With a focus on social justice and equity, work collaboratively with partners in the Student Development Division and provide culturally informed outreach and training to the MassArt campus community. Provide culturally informed consultation to members of the MassArt community who request support or require input from a mental health expert. Assist with crisis response to mental health emergencies involving MassArt students (including occasional after-hours crises). Be an active member of Student Development initiatives and national organizations in higher education relevant to student affairs.Evening and weekend responsibilities as needed.Perform other duties as assigned (i.e. Search Committees, Governance Committee, projects, etc.)
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An MSW or master's in counseling (or related field) with at least 4 years of experience post-licensure in mental health settings; or a doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D, or DSW) in counseling, clinical, psychology, or social work with at least 2 years of experience post licensure in mental health settings.
Licensed or license-eligible as an LICSW, LMHC, or psychologist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (must file for licensure in MA immediately upon hire and obtain license in accordance with MA State Board of Health prevailing standards and schedules).
Experience with electronic medical record systems; must be computer literate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Commitment to socially just and equitable practice and a developmental training model Demonstrated experience in program development and evaluation. Demonstrated experience in policy development and implementation. Demonstrated skill providing clinical services for diverse clients, including international populations and clients who identify along the gender and sexual orientation spectra. Experience with people from marginalized groups and the issues they face as they navigate with dominant culture(s) and between cultures. Demonstrated experience providing clinical services for the wide range of presenting issues seen in college students, including assessing and managing risk and the treatment of serious concerns (e.g. eating disorders, prodromal symptomatology). Appreciation and knowledge of intersecting identities, the process of identity development (intersectional identity development), and how this varies between individuals. Training or experience with issues such as racial fatigue, code switching, and impostor feelings. Ability to manage a full caseload within a brief treatment, time-limited clinical setting. Ability to manage crisis situations, including suicidality and danger to others. Highly effective interpersonal skills; ability to work well with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds; ability to work in a highly collaborative manner. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to provide vision, training, supervision, and leadership to a college counseling center training program. Clinical supervisory experience. Familiarity with a variety of cultures (both international and domestic). Experience, living, studying, or working outside the United States. Fluency in multiple languages. Clinical experience working with international, immigrant, and/or refugee populations. Experience in a college or university counseling center. Strong outreach, presentation, and consultation skills. Experience providing process group therapy
