Job Summary
The Assistant Director, Foundation Relations will manage a portfolio of50+ foundations which are capable of making gifts in the \$25K to \$1Mrange. For this portfolio, this role will employ a Moves Managementmethodology and will be responsible for all fundraising activitiesincluding identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Responsibilities
Responsible for raising \$1M to \$3M annually to advance thefundraising priorities as established by the Leadership Team of MBSDand the Dean of the University of Chicago Medicine. Sustains andbuilds relationships with and support from foundations. Manages aportfolio of 50+ prospects, which are independent philanthropicfoundations or corporate foundations.Designs and implements fundraising initiatives includingidentification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitationstrategies for foundations with the capacity to make grants in the\$25K to \$1M range. Takes initiative to identify matches betweenfoundation funding guidelines and existing UCM efforts and in turnto market foundation funding opportunities to faculty. Writes andmanages the writing of proposals for the prospects in the portfolioand often composes correspondence on behalf of others.Shares responsibility with the Director for the continued growth ofUCM\'s annual foundation fundraising by conceiving and implementingnew strategies for growth.Builds a methodology for continual tracking and identification offoundation funding opportunities and works with MBSD\'s LeadershipTeam, UCM faculty, volunteers, and MBSD staff to identify andqualify foundation prospects. Qualifies foundations, rating theircapability and likelihood to make a grant to UCM.Develops and maintains relationships with foundation donors, staff,and trustees, and identifies opportunities for interaction withfaculty and other individuals who have the ability to deepen theprospective donors\' engagement with the UCM. Meets with programofficers and other foundation contacts as well as arranging sitevisits and meetings involving faculty, administrators and trustees.Conceives of and implements solicitation strategies includingwriting presentations and proposals. Works with faculty,administrators, trustees and fellow development staff at MBSD andAlumni Relations and Development (ARD) to identify and defineprojects and budgetary needs. Works with these aforementionedconstituencies to develop and present proposals to foundations.Writes complex proposals and manages the submission of proposalsbeing written by faculty.Has a moderate/solid understanding of the identification andsolicitation of foundation/corporate prospects with the capacity forspecial, high-level support for the University\'s priority programsand projects. Develops and maintains relationships with donors,volunteer leadership, faculty, and administrators, often throughpersonal visits, phone contact, and attendance at special events.Works with faculty, deans, administrators, trustees, and otherdevelopment staff to define projects and develop and presentproposals to foundations or to call on prospective donor compa iesin the Chicago metropolitan area and the United States.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
