Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Assistant Director to support our K-8 programming with A Cut Above.
The Assistant Director will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Assistant Director will join our A Cut Above team that provides academic help and leadership development, as well as high school and college preparation. The ideal candidate will provide effective leadership and support all programmatic components in organizational structure development, resource management, and curriculum development.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience working in education or social services.

A commitment to the mission, values and programs of HCZ Ensure all programmatic aspects adhere to organizational and site mission and values Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of progressive educational or social service experience, master's degree preferred Experience working with a teen-aged population, preferably in alternative educational environments Experience in curriculum development and implementation Must possess strong, high quality leadership and organizational skills Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, detailed orientated Consistent passion & drive for leadership and youth engagement Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook Comfortable working in working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color Knowledge of building and sustaining high-quality teams Must be able to work flexible hours based on the needs of the program, including but not limited to weekends
What You'll Do
Assist the Director with all aspects of administrative, programmatic, and day-to-day program operation Manage program staff comprised of supervisory and various artistic/educational/wellness support roles Ensure that the A Cut Above program stays on track to consistently meet the program's enrichment and academic goals and objectives Monitor the academic progress of program participants, and make recommendations and adjustments to program content and instructional methods as appropriate Assist with the development of reports to track and assesses efforts to prove outcomes and accomplishments Oversee the management of the HCZ ZORA database Establish and maintain systems for monitoring frontline managers for staff performance and progress in achieving organizational and program goals Mentor and develop program staff, including managing and tracking work and evaluating performance Coordinate and facilitate quarterly program-wide staff development opportunities Foster strong relationships and effective communication with students, parents, staff, and HCZ leadership Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with HCZ colleagues, and serve a liaison to external community organizations, schools, parents and other stakeholders Enforce all program policies and procedures to ensure safety the of students and staff, and compliance with government agencies Program operational management includes ensuring key program strategies are properly delegated to appropriate managers and staff and followed through to completion and reporting Plan and prepare seasonal programming courses which include student exposure activities Focus on the program areas of administrative operations, youth and family engagement, staff development and special projects Perform other duties assigned
