Job Description
ASSISTANT DEAN, PROACTIVE ADVISING INITIATIVES (PAI), Undergraduate Advising Center, to manage an advising caseload of undergraduate students, while assisting with the implementation of a new student success software at MIT, including a comprehensive early alert system. Will collaborate on designing, maintaining, and effectively measuring the systems’ progress, including department and university goals and objectives, collection and assessment of data, and utilization of the results for enhancing the undergraduate student experience and success. Responsibilities include managing and advising a caseload of undergraduate students in areas such as course selection, degree planning, career paths, and graduate school opportunities; maintaining records on student advising caseload and using data to inform programmatic and policy decisions; collaborating on developing and maintaining training materials, shared user manual, and online modules; taking a leading role in managing and maintaining student success software, including modifying roles, permissions, testing, and technical troubleshooting; and developing and delivering proactive student success workshops. Job Requirements
REQUIRED: master’s degree; at least five years’ advising, counseling, or academic administration experience, including experience with advising/student success technology and data analytics; knowledge of student development theories; ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders including students, faculty, and staff; strong analytical skills and ability to analyze, interpret, and effectively present data related to student success and retention, advising effectiveness, and/or programmatic outcomes; excellent written and verbal communication and ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences and develop and facilitate workshops; and a flexible approach to working within a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. PREFERRED: experience with student retention/advising software and experience managing or leading others.
