Utilize art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to help pediatrics patients and families to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior, develop social skills, reduce anxiety and increase self esteem in the hospital environment,
Offers and provides individual art therapy sessions to pediatric patients and families on the inpatient units of the children's hospital based on daily psychosocial assessment and referrals from the child life and interdisciplinary staff,
Plans, organizes and prepares developmentally appropriate creative art therapy sessions in the activity centers on various units,
Utilizes art therapy techniques as a diagnostic and treatment tool,
Interprets the child s perception of his/her diagnosis and treatment as revealed through art and other means of communication both verbal and non-verbal,
Education
Master s degree in art therapy required.
Experience
Successful completion of on an art therapy internship program. Experience with children, preferably in the healthcare setting.
CERTIFICATION
Art Therapist Registered (ATR) or Board Certified (ATR-BC) preferred upon hire. Required within 18 months of employment.
