The Team:
At Arity, our Geospatial Data Science team is a fundamental and key differentiating component of Arity's strategic vision, making transportation smarter, safer, and more useful for everyone. Not only do we know how to analyze and find meaning within billions of miles of driving data collected from smartphones, onboard devices and third parties, but we are passionate about how it affects the end-users of our products. On our team, people get the opportunity to build scalable distributed data pipelines to efficiently extract innovative insights from raw GPS and contextual data, enhance applications from enriched geospatial layers on a large scale, and create eye-opening data visualization. By leveraging our state-of-the-art algorithms, cost-effective platform, and easily accessible micro-services, we can quickly turn geospatial data into actionable insights. This team is also fully integrated within a cross-functional scrum team including product owners, software engineers, and other talents to collaborate with for creating innovative products.
The Role:
As a geospatial expert at Arity, you will be considered as the technical expert for geospatial data. You are expected to make key technical decisions about how to approach complex geospatial projects. You have chances to influence the business for the entire cycle of geospatial data including collection, processing, aggregation, modeling, and visualization. You will personally lead the solution development for these projects and work with product owners, data/software engineers, and other partners for productionization and client delivery. Some example projects include:
Efficiently route match raw GPS dataExtract geographically relevant mobility patterns from usersDerive driving contextual information based on driving environment Build nation-wide risk mapGeospatial modeling of traffic data

Responsibilities:
Your day-to-day looks like:
Working with large geospatial data sets using distributed computing frameworksBuilding spatial and machine learning models using a variety of languages and tool setsWorking cross-functionally to identify business opportunities for geospatial data science, exploring new data sources for enrichment, collecting appropriate labels for learning, establishing actionable metrics, and creating reusable model validations and risk mitigationCommunicating results to key stakeholders in a clear and compelling mannerApplying appropriate methodologies for the problem and validating the solution with the appropriate metricsEstablishing and following data science best practices including peer review, code review, documentation, coding standards, and ensuring reproducibility and complianceExpanding your geospatial data science skillset through development opportunities and researching innovative tools and techniques to level up our capabilitiesWriting technical blogs, patents, papers for knowledge sharing and present in notable geospatial conference to promote Arity's capabilities and products
Job Qualifications
Extensive knowledge about geospatial data sources both in public and private domain such as US census data, weather data, parcel data, POI, etcAbility to process, analyze, and visualize large amounts of geospatial data using Spark, Python, SQL, etc. Demonstrated capability to build spatial models and techniques such as kriging, spatial linear mixed models, geographically weighted regression, Markov random field, spatio-temporal models, graph theory models for transportation networkAdvanced knowledge in predictive models using geospatial data such as crash/fatality prediction, traffic flow model, risk mapProficiency in data visualization and analysis including use of open source or commercial geospatial tools such as Kepler.gl, ArcGIS, QGIS, and PostGIS Ability to translate product requirement into well-defined analytical problemsAbility to provide written and oral interpretation of highly specialized terms and data, and ability to present this data to others with different levels of expertise
Optional:
Experience working with transportation agencies like DOT and domain knowledge in transportation safetyExperience working through end-to-end life cycle for a geospatial application from data acquisition, model building through to deploying, monitoring, and revising models in a production settingExperience with building maps from traffic data

Education and Experience:
Master's or PhD degree in a geospatial related field such as geospatial science, statistics, civil engineering, computer science, or related disciplineOver 10 years' experience with geospatial data in large scale and familiarity with common maps such as HERE, OSM, Tomtom and OpenLR

Compensation offered for this role is $154,400.00-$210,350.00 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
