Operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields and/or transport workers to the grocery store, or bank on an as-needed basis. Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities. Not all workers are requested to drive; drivers will be required to possess a valid operators license. No one will be rejected for the position that does not possess a class D license.
Manually planting, cultivating, & harvesting fruits, berries and vegetables including, but not limited to, apples, peaches, cherries, blueberries, winter squash, sweet corn and tomatoes.
Using hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, & knives. Tilling soil, transplanting, weeding, thinning &/or pruning crops. Cleaning, packing, and loading harvested product. Constructing, maintaining & repairing fences, equipment and farm buildings. Participating in irrigation activities such as setting up and operating irrigation equipment; clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches.
Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, & self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow & fertilize the soil. Repairing & maintaining farm vehicles, implements & mechanical equipment. Informing the owner or farm manager of crop progress and field observations. Identify plants, pests and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers. Applying pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers to crops. Record information about crops, such as pesticides use, yields or costs. Must be physically able to lift up to 50lbs on a consistent basis throughout the day. While working in the field, all cell phone usage is limited to emergency use only. Smoking is not permitted during the workday or on business property. Any tobacco use is limited to off hours and breaks and only at the designated smoking area.
Workers will received sexual harassment training upon arrival and ARE subject to Mead Orchards sexual harassment policy. Due to health and safety concerns on our farm, workers are required to have the ability to comprehend simple instructions in English.
