This position is a key part of the Absence Product Management team, responsible for executing on our strategic vision related to the ever-evolving paid family and medical leave product. Reporting to the AVP of Paid Family and Medical Leave, the Assistant Director, Paid Leave will focus on supporting the on-going success of Group Benefits through researching, developing insights and strategies for product management opportunities, marketing opportunities and marketplace threats.
The selected person will be an individual contributor who will work independently but will also work closely with other team members and is expected to collaborate with business partners including but not limited to Actuarial, Underwriting, Sales & Service, Claims, IT and Finance professionals. It is expected that this person will be seen within the organization as a product expert.
Primary job duties/Responsibilities:
Lead product development initiatives to identify, design, develop and launch new PFML and related products and product/service enhancements by:
Identifying opportunities, validating concepts, and developing Lean Business Cases for prioritization through agile portfolio processDevelop product design and product filing strategy. Collaborate with Pricing, Product Filing and Product Execution Group to draft, price, file, approve and implement policy language.Serve as Epic/business owner to drive execution of product development and process enhancement initiatives, including implementation of new product/enhancements across the value chain to ensure accurate, and on-time delivery of new product.Effectively work with cross-functional teams, Agile Product Manager, Agile Product Owners, Change Lead, SME's and business partners to achieve targeted development dates and cycle time reductions. Resolve and manage issues relating to offering development.Assist with implementation of product/service launch strategy to include product specifications, positioning, marketing and communications plans, training and support.
Provide leadership of on-going maintenance and compliance of existing PFML products by:
Providing expertise regarding Statutory/PFML contract and product features and servicesBeing accountable for contract standards and decisionsCoordinating refreshes and compliance updates including State filings and related maintenance to comply with regulatory changes; managing compliance alerts that impact multiple areasMaintaining PFML product documentation including product specifications, product menus/PADU's, product reference guides and notes and sample contractsSupporting development of organizational product training, product marketing and positioning materials including product brochures and finalist slidesWork with internal partners and external organizations to represent The Hartford's position on issues impacting our products or market viability.
Job Qualifications:
Minimum of 7 years of group benefits insurance experienceStrong working knowledge of absence management that includes PFML and/or Leave management preferred.Strong knowledge of statutory Disability/PFML products, including compliance and regulatory aspects and inter-relationship of disability and absence and market trends.Demonstrated leadership experience in a product management, strategic planning or line of business management.Demonstrated ability to develop sound product and service strategies, incorporating customer needs, market trends, regulatory and business considerations to capitalize on opportunities to drive profitable growth. Ability to link strategies to action to drive business performance.Demonstrated understanding of financial concepts including pricing and accounting and ability to drive actions to improve top line and bottom line growth.Track record of leading and delivering successful initiatives and ability to work in a dynamic environment on multiple projects, tasks or assignmentsSuperior communication skills, both oral & written. Ability to tailor presentations and material to a wide variety of audiences and willingness to present internally and externallyDemonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team. Sets clear objectives and expectations. Holds people accountable for delivering results.
Salary $96,800 - $145,200

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
