Job Description
As the Accountant I, you will assist in all areas of sales and use tax including, but not limited to compliance, audits and research. You will ensure timely and accurate filing of returns and will assist with journal entries and monthly GL account reconciliations. You will also help research sales tax issues regarding audits, compliance and new business initiatives and help identify and implement systems / process improvements and other special projects. This position reports to the Budget Manager.
This position will operate on a hybrid schedule which includes regular attendance in the Norfolk, VA office 3 days per week with the flexibility to work remotely for the remaining 2 days per week.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and file state sales and use tax returns in multiple state, local and foreign jurisdictions and ensure timely payment of associated tax liabilities
Prepare and perform all monthly tax reconciliations of sales and use tax transaction data, review accounting transactions to support liabilities for compliance reporting
Respond to requests for tax information by internal customers and taxing authorities and resolve compliance issues with taxing authorities
Develop and maintain internal control procedures over the tax process in both domestic and foreign jurisdictions
Complete other special tax projects as needed
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
1 year of relevant experience working within a corporation, preferably with sales and use tax
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong research skills and ability to keep abreast of tax laws, rules and regulations and their applicability to specific situations
Good verbal and written communication skills, necessary to articulate ideas and prepare analyses
Good understanding of general accounting concepts and procedures
Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively multi-task operations/projects with deadlines
Strong MS Excel skills and ability to understand and work with ERP systems
The annual base pay range for this role is $50,000.00 -$60,000.00.
