High School Special Education Teacher {2024-2025}
Freire Schools is seeking a full-time Special Education teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Exact grade to be determined, but possible grade levels range from 9th - 12th grade at either our Tech High School or Center City High School Campus. Freire staff members are forward-thinking team players passionate about working with and unleashing the potential of urban youth. Responsibilities:
Compliance:
Familiarize yourself with IEPs and evals of all students on caseload, know their history, goals, accommodations, and specially designed instructionSchedule all IEP meetings in complianceModify IEP draft to reflect current needs before meetingsCollaborate with school psychologist for any students being evaluatedConduct ongoing progress monitoring, complete progress monitoring reports each quarterAttend all IEP meetingsWrite, facilitate and implement PBSPsFile Compliance ensure signatures, teacher input, paperwork is setGather teacher input for progress monitoring
Manage caseload:
Set up system to routinely monitor student grades and progressSet up system to ensure student comprehension of curriculum materialMake proactive remediation plans for struggling students early in the quarter that involves parent, teachers, student, and dean/academic heads
Collaborate:
Collaborate with grade level team daily/weekly/bi-weeklyCollaborate with co-teachers daily/weekly to plan effective lessonsModify all materials for major assignments and assessments in advance of teacher distributing to classModify gradebooks bi-monthlyWork with teachers, deans, school heads on PBSPs, behavior strategies

In each graduating class, 89% to 92% of our college-attending graduates return to college for their sophomore year, compared to just 69% nationally.Freire Charter School just was awarded a $2M grant and Freire Wilmington a $1.8M 5-year grant to continue their 21st CCLC programs for the next five years.TECH Freire was one of only five schools, out of 39 total applications, approved to open a new Philadelphia charter school in 2016.
