  Lockport is looking for these types of roles for Summer 2024 : Controls Engineering Intern, Mechanical Engineering Intern, Industrial Engineering Intern, Supply Chain Intern, and Quality Engineering Intern. Please see all 5 job descriptions below.

  Manufacturing Controls Engineering Intern

  Our plants are the groundwork for GM and a hotbed of innovation. We need controls engineer interns to assist maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of specialist equipment. As a controls engineer intern you would be accountable for controls engineering and electrical support for engine programs. These tasks would teach you electrical root causing analysis and problem solving as well as leadership skills to provide technical support and direction to support personnel/skilled trades within the organization. Quality and safety are extremely meaningful to us, so enforcing safe work practices is the highest priority and implement objectives for ergonomics, health/safety and housekeeping, which means that you would have to investigate system and equipment problems and provide technical input in problem resolution.

  Responsibilities:

  Leads electrical projects including new, operations improvements, and periodic repair and replacement Participates in functional area plant meetings and related activities to represent engineering and to assist in reaching the plant's performance goals Develops cost estimates, investment forecasts, business cases, appropriation requests and plans for minor project activity Utilizes statistical methods for continuous improvement on plant systems Develops and monitors planning timetables and projects schedules Coordinates and communicates the development of changes to improve conditions for the assembly process Programming of manufacturing technology Analyzes product, process and technology to figure out the best methods of manufacture Assists in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes

  Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Intern

  We are seeking Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Interns to do hands-on work that could add directly to the bottom line of our culture and our company. You will have many responsibilities and accountabilities, like mechanical support for programs. You will learn how to lead mechanical projects for several different areas of the plant including operations improvements and new and replacement programs. This is a hands-on position in which you may work with periodic repairs and to provide technical support and direction to support personnel/skilled trades.

  Responsibilities:

  Mechanical root cause analysis and problem solving Analyze product, process and technology to figure out the best methods of manufacture Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes Assist maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of specialized equipment Troubleshoot special maintenance and equipment problems Coordinate machinery upgrade projects

  Manufacturing Industrial Engineer Intern

  We are seeking Industrial Engineer interns to do hands-on work that would have the opportunity to add directly to the bottom line of our culture and our company. You would be responsible for the analyzing efficiency of manufacturing operations and changes related to personnel, material, machines and facilities. Work involves leadership ability, critical thinking and communication skills. Exercises independent determinations with mentorship from supervisors.

  Responsibilities:

  Confirms or recommends changes to layouts, labor control and/or material control Frequent contact with others outside the work group Assists in developing accurate methods and optimum operation layout Makes operation descriptions and performs the vital calculations to complete studies and change routines or other systems of labor and material control

  Manufacturing Supply Chain Intern

In Supply chain there are always moving parts, timelines, and problems to overcome. Here, you would have to use innovation and creativity to help drive for results. You will be working in a fast-paced plant environment where you will learn interpersonal skills including the ability to prioritize, balance multiple projects simultaneously, and meet goals.

  Desired Qualifications:

  Experience with commodities (metals, stampings, castings, plastics, resins, paint, electronics, etc.) Experience leading commercial issues with suppliers and assessing supplier performance Demonstrated skills in complex negotiations Knowledge of procurement software and databases Knowledge of materials management Capable of interpreting market data Able to read blueprints and to understand basic engineering documents Solid knowledge of contract law and its applications regarding purchasing processes Work globally, independently, and be proactive Demonstrated leadership in field of study, extracurricular activities or service organizations Able to work independently and with a team Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust

  Manufacturing Quality Engineer Intern

  Looking for a position that demonstrates your high level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult? Our culture here at GM cultivates innovative thinking where we like to see things not as they are but as they could be. We also look to put quality and safety at the forefront of everything we do. As a Quality Engineer at GM you would drive problem solving and resolutions based on data driven solutions to suppliers and internal customers. Your work would involve functioning as a technical liaison between production operations, engineering, suppliers, and supplier quality

  Responsibilities:

  Interact with production and engineering on part measurement results to part print specifications to assure quality and reliability Ensure effective containment and resolution to identified non-conforming product Communicate emerging issues for responsible components daily to Quality Systems Manager Coordinate repair, rework, and containment activities for identified spills Validate supplier scrap Work with PRR process on supplier related issued Support the PTR Process by running PTR's and evaluating impact on the product / function Support launch activities of new products Support the implementation and effective adherence to all elements within GMS

  Desired Qualifications:

  Knowledge of and ability to effectively use computer software as it pertains to quality engineering Knowledge of design tolerances and gauge function Understanding of supplier quality standards Prior internship experience in automotive or technology Demonstrated leadership in field of study, extracurricular activities or service organizations High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative and is proactive Emerging partnership and collaboration skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust

  Additional Description

  Qualifications:

  Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering/Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering/Controls Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management Must be graduating between August 2024 and May 2027 Student attending University at Buffalo Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skill ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience Highly proficient with Microsoft office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint Proficient in reading part drawings and interpretation of part measurements
