Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as a Senior Employer Stop Loss Underwriter: Captives!
About the role
In this role you will be responsible for risk-based underwriting of new and/or existing captive accounts. You'll be accountable for the achievement of profit, persistency, and growth goals through financial analysis of employer groups.
What you will do
Based on a case Quote Authority Limit of up to $3M specific stoploss annualized premium and $20M aggregate attachment point:
Determine level of risk based on established guidelinesAnalyze information on past claim history and other standard criteriaDetermine needed rate level using multiple tools, including a medical evaluation of ongoing large claimant concernsDevelop and determine appropriate aggregate factorsUnderwrite larger and more complex casesRelease final rates and factorsAccountable for profitability and all risk-based decisionsManage performance of new and/or existing accounts for assigned territories in the following areas:
Target Final Effective Renewal Rate IncreasesClose RatioCase Premium PersistencyBilled to Blended Manual Ratio Quote Turn Around TimeProvide competitive feedback on rates/factors and products to managementRecommend improvements in underwriting and marketing strategiesParticipate in Underwriting Projects and Cross Training InitiativesDaily interaction with agents, field staff, marketing reps and other underwriters to maintain consistency and support department workflowBuild and maintain excellent client, Rep, TPA and internal personnel relations Serve as a resource to junior level underwritersMay supervise Underwriting Analysts

Compensation
Salary Range: $73,200 - $122,000 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Your experience and skills
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required3-5 years Captive Stop Loss Risk Based UnderwritingExtensive knowledge and risk based underwriting experience of various captive arrangements including, but not limited to:Standalone and single-parent captivesGroup captivesCaptive cellsCaptive programsCollateral/funding mechanismsReinsurance structuresStrong organizational, time management and analytical skills Able to consider multiple data sources, high attention to detail and draw relevant conclusionsAdjust quickly to changing priorities and conditionsCope effectively with complexity and changeDemonstrated ability to learn quickly, and proficiently understand, adapt, and absorb new informationExcellent communication and negotiation skillsProficiency with the MS Office Suite of Applications
