  Job Description

  The Wind Energy Workforce Development team at NREL conducts research and provides information to education and training programs, wind employers, and jobseekers for the land-based and offshore wind energy industry. The team is conducting an effort to catalog wind energy educational opportunities who will train the next generation of wind energy workers. Programs include university, community colleges, vocational schools, registered apprenticeship programs, and K-12 opportunities.

  The successful candidate will support a team creating an online database where industry and students can visit to learn more about wind-related educational programs across the United Sates. The team is seeking a student intern to support data collection activities.

  The intern’s tasks will include:

  Creating a spreadsheet database of wind education programs.

  Collecting data from webpages and other resources on each program.

  Explore ways to update an online-basedtool.

  We are looking for one student for a 6-month internship, to begin in early Spring of 2024 with the option for flexible hours part-time or full-time over the course of the internship.

  The intern will gain experience in workforce data collection and analysis, land-based and offshore wind energy, and knowledge about educational opportunities for wind energy degrees, courses, and training.

  Basic Qualifications

  Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

  Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.

  Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.

  
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.

  Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.

  Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

  Prior experience in systemic data collection.

  Strong background using Microsoft Excel or other database tools.

  Demonstrated ability to focus independently and collaborate with a team.

  Strong communication skills.

  High standards of work quality.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Knowledge of workforce development, training programs, or renewable energy education.

  A strong interest in a career in clean energy technologies.

  Understanding of land-based or offshore wind energy technologies and trends.

  Desire to create new tools and resources to inform stakeholders.

  Job Application Submission Window

  Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

  Job Profile: / Annual Salary Range: $38,300 - $61,300

  NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.

  Benefits Summary

  Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 403(b) Employee Savings Plan with employer match*; and sick leave (where required by law). NREL employees may be eligible for, but are not guaranteed, performance-, merit-, and achievement- based awards that include a monetary component. Some positions may be eligible for relocation expense reimbursement. Internships projected to be less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.
