Trade Sanctions Governance Director

About the Role:
The purpose of this role is to lead the design of the Trade Sanction Governance across the organization, and to ensure effective governance and its application throughout Novartis for the role scope.
The person will work in matrix environment with Risk & Resilience (associate director Trade Sanctions Governance), Legal, Operations and Biomedical Research resources to ensure design and implementation of Trade Sanctions governance through mapping of Trade Sanctions Process at enterprise level, assessing enterprise risks and mitigations and be prepared for new Sanctions.
The person drives performance reviews for business in scope and is responsible to ensure oversight over risks. Provides expert advice and support in alignment with the business needs of customers and partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Ensures implementation of the Trade Sanctions governance taking into account the specific needs of customers and business units.
• Owns Trade Sanction Governance Framework.
• Defines Second Line of defence approach for Trade Sanctions (incl. ONCE Controls)
• Chairs the Trade Sanction Governance Board with relevant customer to ensure adequate transparency over new and existing sanctions and to ensure adequate business awareness is in place (impact assessment to be led by execution teams).
• Defines and implement a training plan for the enterprise for the scope of role.
• Defines priorities for global programs in close alignment with partners including inputs form Risk Management team.
• Defines simplification opportunities and lead implementation across defined scope.
• Drive implementation of global programs at Enterprise level, including reporting to management as applicable.
• Ensures Novartis is represented at and participates in relevant external forums.
• Builds and develops talent by driving a continuous improvement attitude in the organization.
• Support preparation of audits as well as regulatory audits for defined scope.

Role Requirements
Essential Requirements:
• Proficient English & another European language desirable
• Validated experience in Trade Sanctions area.
• Solid program management experience including budget, and leading matrixed teams.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, leading diverse partners with a high level of personal credibility.
• A leadership style that is inclusive, proactive, respectful, change agile, innovation/creativity, and achieve results with a strong customer service focus.
