Job Description
The Department of Public health and seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist who will provide comprehensive, high quality, psychiatric psychological and addiction treatment services to adults with chronic medical illnesses while they are inpatients on Tewksbury Hospital's medical units. The Psychiatrist may assume responsibility for oversight of teaching and training of any professional students or residents. The Psychiatrist will support the completion of all necessary documentation, provision of all elective and emergent mental health evaluation and treatment, and will work, in collaboration with the DPH clinical staff, to design effective clinical plans for all medical patients who have psychiatric co-morbidities. The Psychiatrist will participate and or direct all relevant committees and will actively participate in quality improvement activities of the Hospital.
Please note: This position will work from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Provides direct psychiatric service to patients in the DPH units of Tewksbury Hospital through the comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients as requested in consultation by medical clinicians. Rounds on inpatients on DPH units as requested by DPH clinical staff and will document assessments and recommendations in Medical Record. Evaluate medication therapy and advise re changes in medications based on clinical condition. Actively participate in multi-disciplinary Mental Health rounds on each assigned unit. Oversee the work of staff psychologists involved in patient care for those patients under his/her care. Works with outside agencies as required by patient need to formulate effective transitions into and out of care at this facility from and to other settings.Assures that available clinical resources are deployed in the most effective manner, develop staffing plans to meet the clinical needs of the patient population, review and offer recommendations on all matters of clinical policy and practice related to mental health services. Monitors quality of mental health services provided to patients in the DPH units of Tewksbury Hospital.Initiates and follows through on improvements in the quality of Mental Health services provided to patients in the DPH units of Tewksbury Hospital. Participates in staff committees and other Medical Staff responsibilities as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of, and experience with the care of patients with major mental illness.Knowledge of, and experience with the care of patients with polysubstance use disorders.Knowledge of, and experience in the care of patients with acute and chronic medical illness, including traumatic brain injury and neuro-degenerative diseases.Board Certification with least three (3) years of post-residency professional experience in the field of psychiatry and/or completion of a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry with specialty board certification.A capacity to work well within medical and multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least three years of residency training in a recognized program in psychiatry AND at least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in the field of psychiatry.
Special Requirements: Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine.
