The Apple Maps Analytics Insights Engineering team is in need of great engineers. Our team builds big data and computing platforms to empower engineers, statisticians and scientists to carry out rapid prototyping and analysis of data, gathering insights to improve the accuracy and quality of Apple Maps global dataset. We own the Analytics Insights platform for Apple Maps, and our vision is to provide the unified platform to discover, analyze, transform & visualize metrics data. We're looking for a customer-focused data engineer to help build our infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have expertise architecting, building and operating large-scale data systems and will be familiar with data engineering platforms. You'll be a core contributor to our platform, and you will work with engineers, statisticians, data scientists, product managers and mapping experts to improve a core product that touches millions of users worldwide each day. Working as part of a cross-functional team, you will work on novel problems and solve challenges around data analytics and distributed systems while keeping user privacy as a top priority.

7+ years' experience working with distributed systems. Expertise in object-oriented software development, engineering best practices and design patterns. Proficiency in database technologies like SQL, data warehousing solutions. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala. Experience with big data technologies and frameworks, including Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP or Azure) Familiar with design and implementation of data pipelines to move, transform, and load data from source systems to data warehouses. Understanding of data quality, data governance, and data security best practices.

Operate critical production services with high uptime and performance, employing the right level of monitoring and alerting to flag potential issues and utilizing automation for deployment and validation to ensure safe changes in production. Demonstrate ability to investigate, analyze and fix issues with mission critical systems. Strong debugging skills and understanding of distributed systems, backend services and data systems is essential. Influence engineering, product and data science team across Maps and Apple to collaborate on data systems spanning backend services, core infrastructure and Maps data platform. Collaborate closely with the data science team to build systems and data products to enable the development and improvement of Apple Maps products.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700 and $256,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
