Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission and we are looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to join the team. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for am engineer with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Establish and drive supplier quality management to ensure the highest level of manufacturing Hardware Quality
Drive hardware quality and quality systems with suppliers to enable steady hardware performance that meet business KPIs and metrics.
Influence engineering teams and OEM Manufacturing teams through a collaborative working style while maintaining the position of the customer.
Work closely with external development partners, internal Microsoft V-teams made up of both hardware and software development teams, and with upstream component vendors to drive, monitor and improve the hardware quality of Microsoft products going into data centers globally.
Participate in the Hardware development activities representing the quality organization and work with established teams and V-teams to drive identified issues or challenges to resolution.
Be a hardware quality expert who leads failure analysis and root cause identification of hardware issues and supplier quality gaps. Responsible for conducting and overseeing the RCA investigations.
Represent the quality team in supplier performance evaluation.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
12+ years relevant technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience
OR Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
5+ years of work experience in managing manufacturing quality in the electronic industry including experience in product quality, reliability, or product engineering for PCB, PCBA and electronic assembly.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience
OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering experience
OR Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience.
Demonstrated experience as natural leader of cross functional team with strong project management skills.
Understanding of quality tools such as 8D, CLCA, SPC, Pareto charts, FMEA, GR&R, FAI, CPK, PPAP etc.
Ability to analyze large data sets and extract the essence and used the data to make data driven decisions.
Detail exposure and experience to servers-systems and knowledge of server components and their workings.
Use and apply statistics to evaluate product reliability and highlight potential product risks – Six Sigma Greenbelt is a plus.
Understands server microprocessor architectures, including the operation of related subsystems, interfaces, and components.
Software/Firmware experience
Reliability Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
