Position Overview
The Senior Manager, Health and Welfare Benefits is responsible for providing subject matter expertise for all activities related to health and welfare plans for the company. Reporting to the Vice President of People Operations, the person in this role will work directly with members of the People Operations team, brokers, and health and welfare providers to build and maintain a competitive and compliant health and welfare benefits program. The Senior Manager, Health and Welfare Benefits is both a strategic and hands-on manager who is outcome-driven, analytical, organized, a problem-solver, and committed to leading efforts to carry out the goals and objectives of the People Operations team.
Specific Roles & Responsibilities:
Manages the daily operations of the health and welfare program for the company. This includes medical, dental, vision, life and short-term disability, long term disability, and other ancillary insurance, and the 401k plan. Partners with the People Operations team, brokers, and vendors to manage a competitive program and ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, plan documents and other internal controls.Serves as a subject matter expert pertaining to all health and wellness benefits designs and ensures programs are current, competitive and in alignment with the strategic objectives of the company, compliance reporting requirements and internal processes. Stays abreast of all regulatory changes and trends, analyzes the implications for the company, recommends actions and executes solutions.Manages overall program administration including monthly billing, reconciliations, and acts as an escalation point of contact for employee problems and resolutions.Takes an active lead in benefit plan renewals, implementation, and open enrollment. This includes setting up new benefit plans in the HRIS. Partners with brokers to review plan usage and convert data into insights for leadership and budget reviews monthly.Provides support and guidance to members of the People Operations team when complex, specialized and sensitive questions and issues arise.Implements strategies, initiatives, policies, and procedures that align to the team's mission and corporate strategic priorities.Manages and resolves complex employee issues by conducting thorough and objective investigations and recommend solutions in a timely and efficient manner.Creates and implements scalable, repeatable processes related to team initiatives and programs.Builds strong relationships with employees across all layers of the organization and is viewed as a trusted advisor to management. Compiles and analyzes data and metrics to support business decisions and plans as necessary.Utilizes strong knowledge of health and welfare related requirements to minimize legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business, human resources or other related courses is preferred but not requiredHR and/or health and welfare related certifications are a plus but not requiredAt least 5-10 years of progressive experience designing and managing benefit programs in a fast-paced, growth company of comparable size and complexityExperience using Ceridian Dayforce is preferred; however, extensive experience managing benefits through an HRIS is requiredStrong analytical skills with the ability to use Excel, Word and Power Point to reconcile mass data, develop documents and create compelling presentationsExceptional people skills with the ability to interact positively with others, providing employees across the company at all levels with a white-gloved experienceAbility to identify and escalate issues and develop actionable plans to solve problems with compliance and employees in mindAbility to effectively collaborate across all levels in the organization and gain alignment and trust of key stakeholdersStrong understanding of compliance and statutory requirements such as ERISA, ACA and other federal and state regulationsMust be a strategic thinker with a proven ability to implement proactive, multi-faceted strategies for a growth companyMust have the ability to execute both strategic and tactical prioritiesStrong coaching and consultative skills are a mustStrong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing prioritiesProven ability to maintain confidential and sensitive informationMust be able to successfully pass a background check
