The responsibilities encompass space planning within individual units, major remodeling projects, leasehold improvements, and new buildings, covering wet and dry research, education, student study and office space, and animal-related facilities. The position also includes design services such as specification and procurement of finishes and furnishings, with a focus on major, complex projects. Time spent on campus would include stakeholder meetings, visiting construction sites, etc. This position will work in multiple buildings across the Health Science campus but their primary office space will be in the Mayo Building. Project workload will be the predominant determination of time on campus. Duties/Responsibilities 35%: Capital Project Planning, Programming & Oversight Plan and program capital projects for Medical School, considering their impact on infrastructure and facilities. Serve as the liaison between the users and the project teams of internal stakeholders, including Capital Project Management, U Construction, Facilities Management, OIT, Environmental Health and Safety, the Building Code Office, etc. and the external consultants, including architects and engineers, to ensure that the needs of the Medical School are met while taking into consideration the financial impact of decisions. Define needs for relocation plans and capital improvements in collaboration with Medical School leadership. Assist in the preparation of capital budgets and legislative funding requests. Collaborate with the University Real Estate office on lease space acquisition and tenant improvements. Provide space planning, design consultation, and FF&E coordination. Draft and coordinate project administrative tools, ensuring alignment between budget, scope, and schedule. Other relevant duties as assigned. 30%: Space Planning & Programming Apply space planning principles to maximize utilization. Collaborate with academic units to assess business needs for space. Generate recommendations for space issues, providing alternative solutions and cost estimates. Document client space needs and academic drivers, determining required resources. Consult with internal University departments on project-related safety issues. Other relevant duties as assigned. 25%: Interior Design Service Provide furnishing and equipment planning, interior design consultation, and budgeting. Assess space and create specifications for finishes, furnishings, and equipment. Coordinate with vendors and prepare written documentation for procurement based on university procedures. Oversee installations and close-out activities for successful project completion. Other relevant duties as assigned. 10%: Predesigns Oversee predesigns for major capital projects, ensuring compliance with university requirements. Other relevant duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Design, Environmental Design or a related field or equivalent experience plus Five years experience in project programming and planning, or a combination of education and experience to equal at least nine years Experience in complex laboratory renovations (>$1M) Experience with CAD Preferred Qualifications: Experience in academic and/or healthcare environment Excellent communication skills - wri ten and verbal.
