Brief Job Overview
This is a non-supervisory professional IT position in which the incumbent’s main responsibilities involve monitoring and maintaining the operation and stability of USP’s enterprise data center. Specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and overseeing the design, installation, configuration, support, and
maintenance of the data center infrastructure. The incumbent will provide senior level data center support, proactive monitoring of the enterprise data center environment, and provide problem resolutions. The incumbent will also lead efforts to improve the data center and implement new technologies over time. They lead and mentor other data center Engineer(s) with IT enterprise development, integration of enterprise applications, data center security, and system administration. They will also work with other IT personnel and USP staff to ensure that the data center infrastructure components are fit for purpose.
How will YOU create impact here at USP?
• Lead and oversee data center support including break/fix situations, and new installations and/or integrations.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve general data center and system hardware and software issues; assist with problem determination and resolution.
• Analyze data center activity and data center issues/problems to discover and prevent systematic errors.
• Manage and upgrade data center infrastructure including VMware ESXi hosts, physical and virtual Windows, and Linux servers, and Commvault backup system.
• Lead and oversee data center monitoring to ensure the uptime, health, and availability of the data center infrastructure and data center applications.
• Maintain IOS patch management practices.
• Oversee and ensure data center availability compliance to Service Level Agreements in order to maintain and/or enhance the customer’s user experience.
• Oversee and perform capacity planning and data center performance assessments to ensure that the data center performs and has sufficient capacity that meets present and future needs of the business.
• Oversee and gather metrics for capacity management purposes.
• Provide recommendations for data center design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance.
• Lead the coordination of vendors, suppliers and professional services during project engagements and research & development queries.
• Provide complete and accurate documentation as required by USP Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.
• Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining all data center documentation.
• Researches, analyzes, and recommends the implementation of software or hardware changes to rectify any data center deficiencies or to enhance data center performance.
• Provide assessment of compatibility for new equipment with current equipment; keeps abreast of new software/hardware developments.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
• Willing to be on call and work off hours as requested by the Sr. Manager, Network, and Infrastructure Engineering.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Education Level:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related science discipline from an accredited college or university.
Required Skills / Experience:
Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of work experience in supporting the acquisition, administration, configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of data center infrastructure.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):
• Extensive working knowledge of the VMware platform.
• Extensive working knowledge of server/appliance virtualization.
• Extensive knowledge of high availability hardware and software technologies.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory (AD).
• Good working knowledge of Windows servers.
• Good working knowledge of Linux servers.
• Good knowledge of SAN technologies and logical file systems.
• Good knowledge of Application, Database, and Web server technologies.
• Good knowledge of Commvault backup system.
• A firm understanding in application transport and data center infrastructure protocols(SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, WINS, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, SNMP, CIFS, and. LDAP).
• Experience working with system and data center management tools, monitoring tools, and reporting tools.
• Monitor data center usage, anticipate problems, and suggest solutions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with applications teams to install applications or upgrade existing applications.
• Ability to learn new technologies and cross-train and/or be cross-trained as part of IT support team.
• Ability to interact successfully with all levels of the organization.
• Ability to manage shifting priorities and to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work in a global organization, with nationals from other countries.
• Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technologies and products, independently using documentation and online resources.
• Ability to work individually as well as in a group.

• Required to work at the Rockville location 2 to 3 days a week.
