JOB DESCRIPTION
The Supply Chain Category Implementation Buyer is a pivotal role responsible for optimizing the procurement process within a company's supply chain. This professional plays a key role in executing strategic sourcing initiatives, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and maintaining high-quality standards. With a focus on category management, the buyer identifies opportunities for consolidation, cost reduction, and efficiency improvement across the supply chain.
Collaboration is crucial, as the Supply Chain Category Implementation Buyer works closely with cross-functional teams, including suppliers, logistics, and internal stakeholders. Their responsibilities include conducting market research, supplier evaluations, and negotiating contracts to secure the must efficient cost. The buyer is also tasked with implementing procurement strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
This role requires a deep understanding of supply chain dynamics, market trends, and procurement best practices. The Supply Chain Category Implementation Buyer should possess excellent analytical skills to assess supplier performance and identify areas for improvement. Attention to detail is paramount, ensuring compliance with regulations, contracts, and quality standards.
In addition to executing day-to-day procurement activities, the buyer actively seeks innovation and continuous improvement opportunities within the supply chain. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and execute supply base/commodity strategies
• Interact and create strong relationship with cross functional teams to deliver common objectives (cost, timing,
quality)
o Lead cross-functional teams regarding on-time execution of Ford's sourcing process
o Facilitate execution of target setting process for new projects
o Support the Program process by participating in cross-functional team discussions to deliver required
Supply Chain milestone requirements.
o Establish and maintain strong cross-functional relationships
• Lead negotiations to ensure best cost at sourcing as well as long term price sustainability
o Lead target and pricing negotiations using tools to secure best cost at sourcing
o Negotiate Year Over Year cost efficiencies and reductions through:
- Development and utilization of analytical tools to deliver Best In Class value and pricing (Cost
analysis, Cost Models, Benchmarking, Market Intelligence)
- Management of annual/multi-year pricing agreements
• Deliver strong data analysis that lead to positive business decisions and robust tracking of price changes through
life of the program/project
o Issue, analyze and evaluate requests for proposals as a result of customer requisition
o Secure project contracts sign-off with subsequent changes that lead to updated quotes
• Lead sourcing processes to deliver best in class value, diverse supply base and strong business relationships with
suppliers
o Source projects and manage Sourcing Agreements in accordance with Ford's Business Framework and
other regionally driven diversity sourcing efforts (e.g. Minority Business Enterprise, Women Business
Enterprise, Veteran Business Enterprise principles, etc.)
o Execute ongoing operation sourcing activities consistent with the Commodity Strategies
• Provide local supplier/country expertise for sourcing and may be delegated the lead for a local supplier negotiation
by the regional lead
• Project management and agile execution
o Issue prototype orders, production Purchase Orders (POs)/amendments and Tool Orders post Sourcing
Agreements in support of vehicle builds and project completion
• Supplier risk management to deliver sourced projects and leveraging Supply Chain position to complete them on
time
o Provide local Project Launch Support including resolution of supply issues, capacity production studies and
PSW (Part Submission Warrant) timing plans
o Manage relationships and day-to-day execution with suppliers and internal customers around supply,
quality, part launches, resourcing and capacity planning (including distressed suppliers)
o Build positive relationships with the supply base by:
- Acting like a partner
- Trusting and being trustworthy
- Communicating with consistency
- Being fact based
- Thinking value not just price
o Develop plan and manage Supplier Resourcing actions in accordance with applicable processes and
procedures:
- Lead on-going cross-functional resourcing team meetings (Engineering, Quality, Finance, Service,
Materials and Manufacturing/Plant Engineer)
- Identify full scope of parts, plants and projects associated with distressed supplier including current
and forward model
- Lead program management of resourcing actions, including problem resolution with the cross-functional
team
- Track and document all ongoing open issues through resolution - via Resourcing Work Plans
publication/update
- Coordinate or conduct tool audits
- Lead and support bank of parts build requirement calculations, storage issues, and raw materials
needs and issue inventory stockpile Purchase Order
- Lead and Coordinate bank of parts builds
- Lead set-up logistics for transfer of tools via third party
- As required, lead or support on-site supervision of tool removal and raw/finished goods inventory
- Manage capital & tooling disposition with new supplier or Ford Asset Sales.
- Work with New Supplier and Materials team to ensure new part requirements are established
(avoid obsolescence).
- Facilitate with Materials team new packaging approval, re-route and inventory management of
containers.
o Lead the development and deployment of constraint mitigation actions to protect assembly/powertrain plant
production as a result of supplier constraints or catastrophic losses
o Utilize Supply Risk Management tools to intervene proactively avoiding potential supply disruption
o Support Project Management and Quality teams in identifying high risk suppliers in Global Capacity Studies
and then lead the active resolution of capacity/supply issues
o Lead the development of supplier support plans that aid in the execution of short-term capacity increases
and/or production schedule changes that can lead to supplier capacity constraints
