Responsible for supervising Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and the daily delivery of health care services to the inmate population. Prepare and monitor nursing staff schedules and adherence to agency written directives. Ensure proper transcription of nursing protocols and provider orders are implemented. Monitor inmate health care and report all concerns or incidents to the Medical Services Manager. Conduct mandatory health screenings, chart reviews, perpetual inventories, quality assurance reports and other tasks as assigned by the Medical Services Manager.
DutiesConduct performance evaluations onemployees as required by Sheriffs Office policies.Delegate, direct and assign nursing care.Review charts, medication orders, nurse improvement reports, quality assurance reports and medical variance reports, always looking for areas where the medical unit can improve.Handle projects directed by administration or the Medical Services Manager.Review daily nursing reports.Work with accreditation and compliance to ensure positive medical inspections for FMJS, FCAC, pharmacy and others.Train new employees on all responsibilities and duties.Review daily schedule for outside providers and consider the list for inmate need.Review incoming laboratory reports, X-rays, ultrasounds, consults and old medical records.Review incident reports from the previous day to ensure adequate medical care was provided as needed.Respond to medical requests as needed.Review the nursing schedule and ensure proper coverage for the medical unit.Medically assess and treat inmates as needed.Document in the electronic medical record (EMR) as needed.Attend meetings as requested by the Medical Services Manager.Complete medication passes as needed.Complete and sign off on Medical/Suicide screenings.Assess inmates for medical clearance into the CCDF.Count and document medications, reorder medications, replenish and maintain medication carts.Complete 14 day Medical Assessments on inmates.Hold clinic and provide assistance for the following providers/services: medical doctor, nurse, dentist, psychiatrist, mental health counselors, health department providers, laboratory technicians, X-ray, and any other providers seeing inmates.Activate doctors orders.Attend and assist with emergencies.Complete medical information for inmate transfers and transport summaries.Count, document and release medications brought into the detention facility.Keep the medical unit clean and stocked. Check expiration dates on medication and supplies.Assist the Medical Services Manager with patient and clinic issues.Work as a team with other nurses and detention members.Assist medical clerk with records and scheduling appointments as needed.Cover for the Medical Services Manager as needed.Administer diagnostic preps for testing.Ensure segregation sheets are signed off.Ensure emergency bag is adequately stocked and signed off on every monthor after every use.Ensure calibrations are run weekly on all monitoring devices (glucose monitor, INR, etc.)Ensure sharps are counted and stocked as required.Ensure the refrigerator is clean and defrosted. Document on temperatures in log.These duties are not inclusive of the role and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse.Processes applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.Participates in cross-training with other co-workers; assists those co-workers when the need arises and learns new tasks by working together as a team.Reports identified or potential maintenance, safety, and/or non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.Timely completes all assignments, pecial projects, and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed, adhering to applicable agency policies.Adheres to leave and attendance policies, including punctual arrival and completing full shifts. Informs the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents, reports overtime hours worked, and timely submits timesheet, attendance, and leave requests.Regularly checks assigned mailbox, phone calls, PowerDMS, and email messages, responding promptly and professionally.Makes assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.Responds to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.Conducts themselves in a polite, helpful, courteous, ethical, and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics, and demonstrates a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and other agency units to enhance work area output and services in line with agency policies.Demonstrates an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.Actively participate in job-specific training.Operates and performs minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturers specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications and RequirementsMinimum Education, Experience and Requirements:
