Position Summary
THIS IS A CONTRACT POSITION HELD BY THE MARION SUPERIOR COURT – BEHAVIORAL HEALTH COURT
This individual will be part of Centerstone staff; however, they will be dedicated exclusively to assist participants in the Behavioral Health Court of Marion Superior Court.
This position is embedded within the Mental Health Alternative Courts PAIR program. PAIR is based on a problem-solving court model and diverts eligible defendants with mental illness to specialized criminal court docket.
This position helps PAIR participants address barriers to success and provide a personal link between different organizations and systems using the Recovery Oriented System of Care. You will help remove barriers for recovery by meeting with the participant regularly in the community. You will practice assertive engagement, a low-demand approach that helps engage participants in treatment. You will use Motivational Interviewing skills to help the participants identify their needs and the potential of the program to meet their needs. Your overall goal is to help participants build "recovery capital," which is essential to help people sustain recovery from mental health and substance use disorders.
This position works closely with a multi-disciplinary team that includes a public defender, a prosecuting attorney, community corrections, probation, a court coordinator, and a judge. A problem-solving court setting allows for fast-paced learning of many different sides of the criminal justice system as well as develop communication skill sets with people from different educational backgrounds and work experiences.
Position Responsibilities
Facilitates participants’ use of family, social and community resources, acting as an advocate with external resources, agencies, and self-help programs.
Provide individual, group and family counseling covering psycho-educational, addictions, daily living skills and activity therapy.
Develop, implement, and monitor clinically and fiscally responsible individualized treatment/discharge plans.
Maintain necessary communications and reporting with referral sources and other involved parties as approved by the participant.
Coordinate care of participants with the PAIR team by having open communication about progress, concerns, crises, and other important information.
Participate in PAIR team meetings and court for the purpose of summarizing, reviewing, and developing participant’s treatment goals, progress, and use of services.
Assist participants with linkage to community agencies.
Complete clinical documentation within two business days of the service provided.
Complete weekly reports of participants who are on that week's court docket.
Complete documentation of minutes spent (case management and face-to-face) on each participant.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
-Able to navigate Electronic Medical records
-Able to navigate Outlook, Word documents, Excel documents, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Level:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred; preferably in psychology, social work, or a related field.
Years of Experience:
Experience working and/or volunteering within the behavioral health, criminal justice, or social services field can be considered in place of degree. Personal experience with recovery from substances is helpful, but not required.
Certification/Licensure:
None required.
