Utilizes extensive clinical knowledge to provide mental health servicesby assessment and diagnosis of students and university personnel withpsychiatric disorders or the potential for such disorders to provideeffective treatment and ensure proper patient care. The PsychiatricNurse Practitioner reports to the Medical Director of Campus HealthServices, Medical Services.
Direct Patient Care - 85%
Conducts psychiatric intake evaluations obtaining an appropriatehistory relevant to the presenting circumstances including currentmedications, allergies, pertinent medical, and psychiatric historyand as needed, an appropriate mental status and physicalexamination.Formulates appropriate initial mental health diagnosis followed by acomprehensive plan of care to include counseling, medications, andwellness education; ensures patient understands his/her conditionand treatment.Provides medical orders including diagnostic tests/labs,medications, and other interventions as appropriate; interprets andevaluates test results.Monitors changes in patient\'s mental status and any medication sideeffects and addresses accordingly.Triages urgent mental health care situations and coordinates withemergency medical responders if transport is needed to off campusfacilities; initiates basic CPR as needed.Indirect Patient Care - 5%
Communicates patient information across the continuum of care;consults with physicians and other providers as warranted.Complies with HIPAA/FERPA regulations; demonstrates confidentiality,sensitivity, and concern during all patient interactions.Documents all evaluations, treatments and other pertinent patientinteractions; maintains records and files reflecting plans of careand up-to-date patient progress.Coordinates supplemental needs for off-campus care through a networkof community specialists and hospitals.Makes recommendations to administration for continued improvementsin mental health services at the university.Takes responsibility for own educational needs and keeps current onresearch pertinent to field; shares information with other staff;acts a preceptor providing instruction and guidance in aconstructive manner.Administrative Responsibilities - 5%
Participate in committees, provider meetings and otherorganizational activities as requested by the Associate VicePresident of Health Services or Medical Director.Participate in creation, coordination and implementation of policiesand procedures as requested by the Associate Vice Presid nt ofHealth Services or Medical DirectorParticipate in strategic planning and continuous quality improvementactivities as requested by the Associate Vice President of HealthServices or Medical Director.Participate in the training of Nurse Practitioner, Athletic Traineror other health care students as requested by the Associate VicePresident of Health Services or Medical Director.Other - 5%
Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
Master\'s or doctoral degree in Nursing and advanced degree fromPsychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.Current AHA CPR in person training certified or ACLS training isrequired.Remain current in the field of college health and maintain boardcertification.Registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency and prescriptiveauthority required.Current NPI number.Any combination of relevant education and experience may besubstituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-yearbasis.Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate preferred5-7 years of relevant experience, preferred.Registered Nurse license issued by the state of Arizona and ArizonaPMH-APRN certification.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
