Legrand has an exciting opportunity for aProduct Sustaining Engineering Managerto join theData Center Power and Control Division Starline Teamin Canonsburg, PA. The Product Sustaining Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers and drafters to manage design changes and updates to released products and service design issues encountered by production personnel during manufacturing. This position will additionally oversee contracted drafting labor including management of time tracking, workload, and invoice approval in support of this mission. This position will provide direction in software use and optimization, oversee and implement process improvements, review and suggest design improvements, set department priorities, and manage team member workload.
What Will You Do?
Supervise the maintenance of line function of the Starline business, providing global engineering and drafting support for the improvement, revision, or correction of released product designs.
Manage the queue of engineering change requests, prioritizing efforts and assigning workload in support of production goals, product safety requirements, and compliance with applicable product standards.
Provide project management, product engineering, and drafting resources in support of Maintenance of Line Development and VA/VE projects, including custom component 3D modeling and dimensioned drawing creation, finished good design, off-the-shelf component selection, and Engineering Design Instruction development or revision.
Collect, analyze, and report on metrics measuring department performance servicing the engineering change and engineering deviation authorization request queues, including a review of service level agreements, frequently reported issues, and downtime impact on production.
Manage the Maintenance of Line Engineering Lab and 3D Printing processes for the Product Engineering Department.
Conduct performance assessments and goal-setting with the team.
Instruct the work of external contract engineering and drafting resources.
Identify and coordinate the implementation of new policies, procedures, or processes.
Oversee the creation of technical documentation, such as assembly and subassembly drawings, component detail and machining drawings, engineering work instructions, and electrical wiring diagrams.
Organize the creation of prototype units on new designs with assistance from production to eliminate possible assembly concerns.
Support the creation of Functional Engineering Tools (FETs) for use by the Product Engineering department.
Support production-related engineering activities including the management of the Engineering Support Desk and Engineering Deviation Authorization process.
Oversee processes to review and verify all CAD drawing and BOM creation work ensuring compliance with standards, Engineering Design Instructions, and customer specifications.
Oversee processes to create parts lists and operation procedures for new and revised products, including support for work within the SyteLine ERP system.
Support Engineering Change Process activities, including support of the development of new processes and software tools, where required.
Support Plugs and System Configurator activities, providing drafting and engineering resources to support the development of design automation tools and software.
Collaborate with product management, applications engineering, and sales personnel to identify enhancements or changes to existing products.
Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to ensure product manufacturability.
Investigate, propose, and manage product updates, including providing resources in support of mass change or major product revision efforts.
Lead Team-based initiatives within Starline.
Qualifications
Required Skills
Education:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline (two-year technical, Associate degree with equivalent experience considered).
A minimum of 6 years of experience in product development.
Two years of experience with direct supervision or leading teams.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10% of the time.
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD/Autodesk Inventor CAD software.
Prior experience working with electrical power components in addition to experience in product development within a manufacturing environment is a plus.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Strong technical aptitude
Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with others.
Knowledge and experience in product design and manufacturing processes is critical.
Advanced knowledge of UL/CUL/CSA standards.
Advanced understanding of electrical theory in DC and three-phase AC low-voltage power distribution, including the ability to create medium to complex wiring diagrams.
Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as injection molding, stampings, and extrusions as well as machining and fabrication methods.
Advanced experience with 3D modeling and assemblies in a CAD environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
Proficiency with Smartsheet (preferred).
Proficiency with ERP systems; Syteline preferred.
Strong analytical skills in relation to troubleshooting and problem-solving.
Excellent planning, organization, project management and prioritization skills.
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
Personal Qualities/Behaviors:
The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
Able to lift and carry up to 40lbs in support of product testing.
