We are looking for a Payments Solution Architect to join our team and help us deliver innovative and secure payment solutions to our customers. You will work with various stakeholders, such as business analysts, developers, testers, and product owners, to ensure BT’s payment systems are effectively integrated within BT Group ensuring that both industry standards and regulations, as well as BT internal architectural patterns and security policies are adhered to. The Payments Tribe Architect will have the opportunity to help refine and shape BT’s Payment Strategy as well as leading the design conversations around how our Payments Platform will be integrated with the wider, BT Architecture and IT.
The Tribe Architect is a new pivotal role in the way of working in the tribe structure being implemented across our Digital unit. The TA sits within BT’s Architecture team and is a close ally of the tribe leadership teams in Digital.
What you’ll be doing
End-to-end Architecture Strategy/Roadmap and Design of the Tribe product/ solutions
Sets and drives the architecture strategy/roadmap aligned to the Tribe’s vision. Drives adoption of the strategic architecture, balancing the outcomes needed of the tribes (including transition states)
Recommends to the Tribe Lead the expected outcomes balancing customer value and technical debt
Guides on the technical shaping and feasibility estimates for epics and features, identifying major dependencies.
Responsible for bringing together other subdomains from others CFUs that use the same capabilities that the tribe needs
Architecture Demand – understands the domain architecture relevant to Tribe products development and collaborates with Sub-Domain Architects to ensure the sub-domain strategic architecture runway aligns with business needs and timescales
Drive Tribe engineering excellence, quality assurance and technical debt optimization and backlog of tech debt the tribe has built.
Tribe product/solution architecture meets the nonfunctional requirements:
Performance - Ensure the continued uptime/reliability, integrity, performance and maintenance of the Tribe’s experience layer.
Security – Ensures security by design and security compliance with all work in the tribe
Economics – Optimizes the TCO of the tribe architecture, ensuring the affordability of the IT with the sub-domain architect
Modernisation – Ensure the tribe is following Cloud native guardrails and modernizing the relevant tribe components.
Leads the creation of re-usable patterns and low-level designs.
Stakeholder engagement - Support the tribe lead with stakeholder engagement to develop and gain support for proposed solutions, providing technology expertise and identifying efficiencies within deployed Technology.
SME - Operates as an SME within own field of expertise and acts as expert advisor to other teams and senior management on the most complex architecture related issues.
Customer Centric – Promotes and adopts empathy driven design for customer centric products.
Inputs into the budget planning process to ensure the relevant funding needed to advance the architecture is requested and identify where lack of funding is slowing the overall architecture rollout down
You'll have the following skills and experience
The ideal candidate should be able to:
Analyse the business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and architectures.
Design and integrate BT’s payment solutions using various technologies, such as APIs, microservices, messaging, cloud, and SaaS.
Perform design, debug, and performance analysis on payment solutions.
Ensure the quality, security, and compliance of the payment solutions (internal and external)
Document and share the best practices and lessons learned from the payment projects.
Provide guidance and support to the development teams and other solution architects.
Identify emerging trends and technologies within the Payments and Fintech sector, helping shape our roadmap for innovation and growth.
Work closely with BT’s, Digital ETC. Pay team and BT Product Owners to innovate, refine and enhance our payments services and offerings to customers.
Understand our Payments Platform and associated products and work closely with relevant BT systems and tribes to ensure technical alignment.
Ensure our Payments capabilities stay ahead of the curve and can exceed customer expectations.
Work with Enterprise Architects and Business stakeholders to develop and execute strategies to ensure BT is a market leader in delivering customer-centric payment capabilities.
Ability to direct and guide a team of architects, solution designers and engineers in the tribe.
What you’ll need:
Proven experience as a solution architect or a similar role in the payment industry (5 years+)
Strong knowledge of payment systems, protocols, standards, and legal and regulatory projects. Ideally including: UK Domestic Payments (Cheques, Faster Payments, BACS), International Payments (SWIFT/SEPA)
Exposure to Open Banking architecture framework
Experience with various payment technologies, such as card processing, mobile payments, open banking, blockchain, etc. (Mandatory)
Experience with agile development methodologies and tools
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills & strong stakeholder management experience from junior developer through to CEO
Experience of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks including TOGAF, and their relevance to the practice of Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF certification not essential)
