Job Summary
Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEMA) has an opening for a PAYROLL SPECIALIST. This part-time, benefit-eligible, non-exempt position will report to GSEMA’s Controller. The current number of hours worked per week (typically 20 plus) may fluctuate based on payroll schedule and job requirements.
This position has a current hybrid work arrangement with work from home and in GSEMA's Andover office; occasional travel and work days in GSEMA’s Waltham office, or as directed.
As a Payroll Specialist, your primary focus for this role will be processing bi-weekly payroll (utilizing ADP Workforce), ensuring employees are paid accurately and timely with correct withholding taxes and deductions. Other payroll/accounting responsibilities include preparing taxes and deductions, payroll-related reconciliations, maintaining payroll records, and preparing reports for management.
As the Payroll Specialist you will also:
• Collaborate with manager and other departments, as needed, to resolve employee payroll questions/issues.
• Communicate with employees regarding escalated complex payroll and time and attendance inquiries/issues and work to resolve in a timely manner.
• Maintain knowledge of the payroll processing system and tax laws.
• Maintain supporting schedules, as needed, utilizing Excel spreadsheets.
• Adhere to the council’s internal financial controls and policies to ensure the council’s assets are protected.
• Maintain accurate, detailed and thorough files concerning council financial transactions, records and reporting.
• Assist in preparing reports and schedules for company audits.
Job Qualifications
Here is what you will need to be successful in this role:
• Five years of previous payroll work experience; familiarity using ADP Workforce Now is preferred.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office (Excel, Word).
• Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills, processes and software applications.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Possess high attention to detail; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; ensures quality of work.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
• Ability to handle high-volume tasks (e.g., computer data entry).
• Possess a collaborative approach and outlook; demonstrated ability to establish trust and professional relationships with staff across all levels of the organization; ability to work with divergent opinions; promote collaboration and exchange of ideas.
