About the job:
The Patient Financial Specialist II: Pre-determines, notifies patient and collects patient financial responsibility on any service prior to date of admission. Investigates confidential patient financial data for purposes of determining patient responsibility and/or qualification for financial assistance. Functions as a liaison between physician, office staff, insurance companies, patients and hospital in obtaining vital financial information. Analyzes and makes corrections as necessary in STAR Patient Care, STAR Patient Accounting and Pathways Healthcare Scheduling systems. Performs advanced verification of insurance, pre-certification, and benefit determination.
Job Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associates Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred
ODJFS Certification preferred.
Minimum of three years experience in a physician's office, clinic, hospital business office, or related area dealing with the public in collection of data and funds.
Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of both governmental and private third-party payor benefits, requirements and regulations.
Demonstrates working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding and medical terminology.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requirements/Qualifications
Demonstrates use of good judgment when dealing with patients, physicians and clinical staff.
Demonstrates the ability to effectively and assertively communicate and negotiate financial obligations and resolve patient inquiries with minimal supervision.
Promptly answers the telephone and appropriately acknowledges, greets, and assists all customers.
Determines and collects patient financial responsibility utilizing all resource tools available.
Acts as liaison with all internal and external customers and facilitates problem resolution.
Analyzes and investigates all referrals for inpatient and outpatient admissions as requested by PFS I Associate.
Demonstrates the ability to diffuse and handle difficult situations.
Responsible for ensuring all medical necessity regulatory requirements are followed.
Completes advanced insurance verification, pre-certification and benefit determination and communicates insurance requirements to physician offices, patients and hospital departments.
Manages, directs, updates and monitors all patient referrals to FirstSource to determine Medicaid/government assistance eligibility before payment obligations are pursued.
Monitors and completes statistical reports related to collection of patient responsibility to meet department goals.
