Opinion Regional Digital Producer - USA TODAY NETWORK | Gannett Opinion Audience Team
The USA TODAY NETWORK and the emerging Gannett Opinion Audience Team are seeking an experienced, regional digital producer to package, optimize and create content for USA TODAY Opinion across all platforms, and help champion our work and grow audience.
Our ideal candidate is excited about opinion journalism and comfortable working with viewpoints that will regularly differ from their own. A successful candidate must have strong news judgment and copy-editing skills, be detail-oriented and work well under deadlines and in a fast-paced news environment.
This person must be comfortable with interpreting metrics, SEO and creating social media strategies. As digital producer, they can expect to take a lead role in creating engagement and promotion plans for work across the USA TODAY Network, adjusting in real time as needed.
An ideal candidate is flexible and adaptable, curious about new platforms, tools and technologies, and are willing to try new approaches to engage and grow our readership.
We're looking for someone with sound news judgment, strong SEO, writing and headline-writing skills, and an ability to produce digital content packages and create social posts to help draw readers to our free and subscriber work. Experience with video creation, production and editing is a plus.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborator who can work closely with editors of multiple publications throughout the USA TODAY Network.
The digital producer will report to our Director of Audience for Opinion.We are a dedicated, collaborative group and their contributions and input will help grow the Gannett Opinion Audience Team.
This position may involve evening and/or weekend work. This position is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii.
Job Level: Digital Producer II
Responsibilities: Edit, produce and publish content, optimizing for SEO and digital best practices. Work with columnists and editors on pieces and projects, offering digital guidance. Work with editors and the audience team to experiment with new ways of informing and engaging audiences on social platforms and alternate methods of storytelling. Use metrics to determine traffic patterns and make changes tied to the data. Familiarity with Parse.ly and Google Analytics products a plus. Create graphics, social cards and videos to increase brand awareness and promote brand columnists and Opinion work on social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter). Monitor wire services and other media. Requirements: Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism or any other subject or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 2-3 years of experience working for a daily news organization. Excellent news judgment. Top-notch writing, editing, and headline-writing skills. Strong command of SEO. Knowledge of AP style. Understanding of social media trends and user experience. Proven experience with storytelling techniques on multiple platforms. Understanding of audience analytics. Familiarity with Google Analytics, Parse.ly and other tools to gain audience insights. Able to multitask and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry. Ability to act calmly and decisively in complex breaking news situations. Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities. Able to work early morning, night, or weekend shifts. The hourly rate for this role will range between $16.44 and $38.70. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
