About Occupational Therapist

  Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services at Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Occupational Therapist to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative care and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners. Reporting to the Associate Director of Assessment and Student Success, the Occupational Therapist is part of a team that provides clinical, psychoeducational, and outreach services to students and learners across Johns Hopkins University.

  The Occupational Therapist focuses on clinical and psychoeducational clinical interventions to support students with ADHD, and learning difficulties, and who may benefit from skill development in time management, organizational skills, executive functioning, sensory integration, and establishing routines that support multi-dimensional well-being. The person in this position works collaboratively with primary care, psychiatry, and health promotion staff, along with colleagues in Mental Health Services, to provide care that emphasizes holistic wellness and mental well-being and that leverages students’ resilience and other key skills.

  The occupational therapy program is part of a newly established Assessment and Student Success initiative and service line; the Occupational Therapists will be part of the team that provides testing and assessment services, executive functioning and time management coaching, and individualized support for the unique needs of undergraduate students who identify as first-generation and/or limited income, on the neurodiversity spectrum, as well as those who may benefit from expanded resources to support their overall success at JHU. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with key partners in Student Affairs and to be part of a team of professionals who are passionate about taking a holistic approach to supporting the well-being of students.

  Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  This position’s direct clinical service responsibilities will be primarily based at the Homewood clinic but may provide virtual or in-person services at other locations in Maryland or Washington, D.C.

  See minimum qualifications for required timeframes for licensure. Jurisdictions required: Maryland and Washington, D.C.

  Direct Clinical Service (65%)

  Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.

  Provides multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including individualized goal assessments, treatment plans, and interventions for a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students.

  Conducts task analysis, adapts skills, and supports skill development across domains.

  Utilizes a strengths-based approach to clinical interventions that promote full engagement in academic, social, and well-being activities.

  Utilizes both flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment and utilizes appropriate assessments to evaluate baseline and monitor progress towards goals.

  Facilitates group interventions and workshops on common topics of interest such as task prioritization, time management, social interactivity, and other topics of interest.

  Collaborates with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team, including therapists, psychiatric providers, primary care clinicians, and case management staff.

  Consults, as appropriate, with providers within SHWB and in the community to facilitate continuity of care.

  Outreach (15%)

  Develops, implements, and integrates evaluation feedback for psycho-educational workshops and other presentations for JHU students and learners.

  Engages in opportunities for informal interactions with students to increase engagement with occupational therapy, which may include offering drop-in hours, attending student events, and participating in a range of student-led and student-focused programs.

  Maintains a visible presence in the campus community through participation in outreach and educational activities including orientation, resource fairs, and community activities.

  Contributes to content for MHS social media and website content.

  Develop promotional and educational materials appropriate to the occupational therapy program.

  Collaborative and Other Activities (20%)

  Remains abreast of current literature and research on occupational therapy and evidence-based intervention strategies.

  Contributes to the development of policy and procedure manuals related to occupational therapy practice.

  Contributes to the professional development of trainees and SHWB staff through the provision of didactic training and seminars.

  Participates in case consultation, peer chart reviews, and other departmental committees as directed.

  Works collaboratively with campus partners to support both the clinical and programmatic needs of students and learners.

  Participates in MHS recruitment and hiring processes.

  Completes documentation and administrative duties in accordance with MHS policies and procedures.

  Other duties as assigned.

  Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

  Demonstrated commitment to the principles of anti-oppression, inclusive excellence, and diversity through involvement and participation in university and division-wide projects and initiatives.

  Specialized training, interest, and/or experience working with one or more diverse populations is strongly preferred; examples include Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) identified students, the LGBTQ+ community, first-generation and/or limited income students, international students, and students who identify as disabled, gender diverse, and on the neurodivergence spectrum.

  Clinical experience with presenting concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred; examples include ADHD, learning disorders, sleep hygiene, physical and psychological disabilities, and organizational and time management challenges.

  Experience independently executing psycho-educational presentations, programs, and events for a wide audience.

  Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.

  Additional Information

  This is a 37.5 hour/week position. One evening clinic per week (telehealth only until 7 pm) may be required.

  This position requires evening and weekend work dependent on the programmatic needs of the University and for activities during the academic year (e.g., orientation, special events, etc.).

  One day of remote work is standard; additional remote days may be required or permitted based on operational needs.

  This is a 12-month position; 10- or 11-month positions may be possible, please discuss options with the recruiter.

  This position is designated as a Required Attendance Employee, designated as vital to the operation of a workgroup, so may be required to work during a university closure in response to operational needs.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.

  Licensure from the Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy required by hire date, licensure in Washington D.C. required within 6 months of hire.

  At least one year of experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist is required.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Master’s or Doctoral Degree from an ACOTE accredited Occupational Therapy program.

  Board certification by NBCOT.

  Clinical experience in a university setting is strongly preferred.

  Starting Salary Range: Min $64,000 - Max $112,200 Annually ($78,000-$90,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

  JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
