MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1-Class E, Driver’s License will be required upon appointment and a Class D Chauffeurs License will be required upon permanent status. Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06 /hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction to primary operation of equipment that is lighter and/or less complicated to operate.
Examples of Work
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in District 61/Unit 779 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
50% Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:
Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted) Motor Graders Backhoes Lowboys Front end loaders Milling machines (<90 HP) Bucket/ladder trucks Road planer Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity Road widener (<90 HP) >20,000 lbs but <40,000 lbs Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted) Dozers (<140 HP) Striping machines Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer Sweepers dump) Track hoes (excavators) Gradalls Under bridge inspection units (trailer Hot mix pavers (<40 HP) mounted)45% Operates other mobile and hand-held equipment as necessary to perform the function of the job. Assists in the removal of trash and debris from elevated sections of interstate systems and bridges. May perform incidental repair and construction tasks including but not limited to drain cleaning, ditch cleaning, pothole patching, flagging traffic and basic traffic control, loading and unloading materials and/or equipment, etc.
Conducts routine visual/physical safety inspection of equipment prior to operation; reports problems to supervisor/appropriate personnel and/or takes necessary corrective action whenever possible. This includes performing routine maintenance and making minor repairs to equipment as needed to keep equipment in clean, good and safe working order. Prepares any necessary paperwork (e.g., mileage, oil/gas usage, etc.) as directed.
Assists herbicide applicators in receiving herbicides by loading and unloading boxes and pallets of herbicides delivered to the department and by loading herbicide spray equipment. This work involves lifting up to 50 lbs.
Implements and follow all traffic control measures while operating or performing assigned job duties. Assists the district wide/ parish maintenance crews with debris removal, emergency lane closures, road repairs and other maintenance functions.
Attends required training in according with the Department's Structured Training Program.
5% Will be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
