The Mission Payload Senior Systems Engineer (RSE) will support payload development related to architecture trades, design analysis, requirement thread, segment interface development and ownership, and performance modeling through computer simulation. This individual will provide systems engineering support to hardware developments for space, and ground systems utilizing one of the following areas: state-of-the-art optical (sensing, communications, directed energy), RF, digital and microelectronics. Project/program roles span all the entire SE phases of product development cycle, from new business acquisition, and IRAD/ technology development to established programs delivering integrated hardware and software systems. Systems engineering activities include system architecture design, trade studies, specification development, requirement definition and allocation, performance analysis and simulation, system modeling and simulation tool development, payload product development, support to hardware design, subcontract leadership, management and selection, manufacturing, integration and test, and operations.
Essential experience in at least one of the following areas:
Overhead Infrared (OPIR) system
Electro-Optics
Sensor design
Remote sensing
High energy laser systems
LaserComm systems
Spacecraft system design
Image processing
RF and digital hardware design
Signal detection and estimation
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 14+ years of engineering experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 12+ years of engineering experience OR a PhD degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 9+ years of engineering experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret/SSBI and/or SCI security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with remote sensing, Space Situational Awareness (SSA), communications or directed energy.
Experience designing, integrating, testing and operating optical and RF systems.
Candidates have completed relevant coursework in optics, LaserComm, and DSP
Experience with baseband and IR sensors, high energy lasers, and remote sensing
Possesses strong leadership qualities, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.
Has active DoD Top Secret/SSBI and/or SCI security clearance.
Salary Range: $161,000 - $241,400
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
