Job Description
The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking dynamic candidates for the position of Grounds Monitor. The incumbent will observe and monitor adult psychiatric clients on Tewksbury Hospital grounds and buildings, providing liaison with Nursing, Rehabilitation and Campus Police Departments and with Hathorne Administration as necessary.

Please Note: Full time, 40 hours per week 7:30am-4:00pm. Days off: Friday/Saturday
Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Observe adult psychiatric client activities in designated areas of the Tewksbury Hospital Campus, both on grounds and in buildings directing or redirecting adult psychiatric clients to stay within designated areas.Observe and report both orally and in writing, significant behavioral occurrences of adult psychiatric clients, intervening as necessary to safeguard adult psychiatric clients and/or others.Report any adult psychiatric client attempts to absent themselves from designated areas, assisting as necessary to preclude such attempts. Participate in AWA searches as directed.Develop an understanding of adult psychiatric clients through communication with Nursing and Rehab Departments providing therapeutic interactions with adult psychiatric clients.May provide programmatic direct care services in the skills of daily living by instructing and/or assisting adult psychiatric clients in personal skills to insure the daily needs, dignity and human rights of adult psychiatric clients are met.Assist in the implementation of rehabilitative, behavioral and recreational programs through observations regarding adult psychiatric client behavior, needs, desires or problems.Preform adult psychiatric client related duties as needed, observing and reporting need for maintenance repairs to areas observed to ensure a safe environment for adult psychiatric clients.Maintain adult psychiatric client records which may include daily reports, incident reports, etc. to provide communication regarding adult psychiatric client's progress.Accompany adult psychiatric clients to appointments or programs to ensure adult psychiatric client safety and timeliness; escort adult psychiatric clients to and from areas as designated.Assist with psychiatric clients attending Zoom court hearings.Assist with transport off grounds to medical appointments and discharges.Assist with moving of furniture on and off the units.Assist in providing leisure activities for adult psychiatric clients during unstructured time to increase the quality of residential life.Participate in orientations, continuing education and training as required to maintain individual proficiency and assure adult psychiatric client safety.Assist in returning adult psychiatric clients from off grounds programs, facilities, and activities as necessary.Assist with off-grounds searches as required by DMH and Tewksbury Hospital policies.May perform additional adult psychiatric client related duties not herein specified at the directions of the Associate Director, Mental Health Services, compatible with that of an MHW I.Compliance with all applicable state and federal laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations with govern the privacy and confidentiality of information about patients.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.Capacity to perform basic mathematics.Proven ability to gather information through observing and questioning individuals.Talent for communicating effectively in oral expression, writing clearly and concisely, and developing ideas in logical sequence.Skilled in interacting with people who are under emotional stress with the ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful or emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness, substance abuse and/or who have experienced homelessness. Valid driver's licenseGiven the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Tewksbury Hospital operates a 370-bed facility and a campus of over 700 acres of land. Its patient care services are provided under the auspices of the Department of Public Health and Mental Health. Joint Commission accredited LTAC hospital that provides high quality, comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with chronic medical and mental illness. A full range of services are provided including 24/7 Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, Medicine as well as psychiatric and psychological services, a 6- bed dialysis unit, clinical laboratory, radiology, respiratory care, nutrition, speech/language, pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation and arts, and pharmacy.
