The Manager, R&D, Software Engineering directs the activities of a software development function for software enhancements and new products. This individual will develop a culture of operational excellence and continuous product improvement. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to build a high performing, engaged team. Develops relationships with other department leaders and partners to share resources and cost to effectively meet build and delivery needs.
What To Expect:
Maintains a high level of understanding of our products and their use in clinical practice to guide the design, development and testing of our next generation diagnostic systems.
Provides consistent, dependable guidance and mentoring to promote learning, development, and knowledge transfer.
Participates in the development of divisional goals, priorities and budgets and is accountable for achieving P&L objectives. Translates divisional goals and priorities into team goals and priorities.
Accountable for all aspects of Software Engineering. Leads a team of software engineers, building a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
Responsible for translating design objectives into an acceptable program of appropriate engineering personnel, schedules, specifications, and resources.
Responsible for communicating the purpose, direction and strategic importance of organizational goals, setting clear expectations and objectives, while working with leadership to improve individual and team engagement.
Provides leadership to aide in development/maintenance of project plans, and effectively deliver all software engineering work in accordance with appropriate engineering processes and to acceptable quality standards.
Lead cross functional collaboration to develop interdepartmental relationships and processes to satisfy the greater needs of Hologic from design and engineering perspectives.
Standardize policies, procedures, processes, and standards incorporating internal and industry best practices for software engineering and where possible the broader R&D organization to ensure highest quality product and efficient project execution.
Ensures the team is providing regular communication and updates on success factors such as progress, schedule, budget, project risks and resource or needs gaps.
Establish collaborative relationships with all stakeholders within the division and create links with experts within the Hologic network and outside.
Responsible for recruiting, leading, and developing team members.
What We Expect:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or other related degree, May have Master’s Degree, May have PhD
8-10 Years with Bachelor’s Degree, 5+ Years with Master’s Degree, 3+ Years with PhD
Demonstrated success leading a high-performing, motivated and engaged team of software engineers in commercial product development over the product lifecycle.
Strong track record of managing large and complex software development projects for medical devices, executing project plans and meeting budgets and deadlines.
Demonstrated ownership over component-level software design.
Understanding of object-oriented design and architecture.
Ability to drive departmental best practices and product or process improvements.
Experience leading Windows PC based development teams
Desired:
Experience leading RTOS/Embedded product teams
Working knowledge of the .NET framework, Microsoft developmenttechnologies, C++, C#, WPF (window presentation format for user interfaces - windows desktop development)
Specific knowledge in the areas of x-ray generation, imaging, physics, electronics, and mammography
Experience working in a matrixed organization using Agile.
Understanding of DICOM/HL7, Android, UNIX, UI development, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Deep Learning
In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards applicable to medical device software development.

The annualized base salary range for this role is $114,000 to $189,900 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
