ABOUT THE ROLE
Hearst UK is seeking an outstanding Engineer and Tech Lead to work as an integral member of the local Product Design Engineering team, alongside the Hearst Magazines International Product team in New York. This is a role for someone seeking an exciting career challenge building and maintaining a world-class digital media platform, developing new apps, as well as working with external paywall and email service providers.
The Product Design Engineering team at Hearst UK is responsible for creating best-in-class digital experiences for world-renowned magazine brands including ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan. Men's Health and Runner's World. Ideal candidates possess big-picture vision but with the drive and attention to detail required to make that vision a reality. The successful applicant will be working closely with a Product Lead and UX Designer, along with our international partners, to maximise the experience of our millions of visitors to our brands' digital properties.
In this role you will be required to lead on outstanding engineering execution, working with the Product Manager and UX Designer to deliver excellent user and promoting increased reader revenue. You must enjoy solving complex business problems at the core of the digital transformation of a world-leading media company. A creative mindset and the ability to help deliver on new product strategies is essential. You will have the aptitude to identify automation opportunities and craft simple, elegant solutions to solve complex problems to your team and stakeholders alike.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical leadership and guidance to a small, dynamic local PDE team, in collaboration with the Hearst International Product team Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data, audience development, brand leads, plus consumer and commercial revenue teams, to understand project requirements and translate them into technical solutions Design web application solutions, ensuring scalability, high performance and good maintenance. You'll be able to own standards and best practices along with debugging, troubleshooting and testing Identify and mitigate technical risks and bottlenecks, proposing alternative solutions when and where necessary. Understand performance optimisations and have the ability to make sound recommendations Stay up to date with the latest web development trends and technologies and assess their suitability for ongoing projects Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, seeking best-in-class performance and solutions at all times To be an ambassador of Hearst UK and its values. You may be required to undertake such further duties as your skills, qualifications and experience allow and/or as may be assigned to you from time to time.ABOUT YOU:
3+ years of experience building complex applications and services Familiar with a wide range of technologies including JavaScript, Python, NodeJS, React, as well as Relational and NoSQL databases Experience with data visualisations and analytics dashboards In possession of a collaborative mindset with an ability to work across teams to plan features and technical migration Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and considerations Familiar with Agile / Scrum team methodology In possession of a business mindset - understands the relationship between strategic revenue drivers and technology Excited to learn new tools and frameworksWHAT WE OFFER
