  Founded within one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in the country, the Weitzman Institute is dedicated to promoting equity and optimizing health outcomes for vulnerable populations through innovative research, education, and policy. Since 2007, Weitzman has grown into a nationally recognized organization with expertise in social determinants of health, systems transformation, and workforce development, and clients in all 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Its unique environment, within a safety-net health system, has enhanced its ability to conduct research, design curriculum for healthcare professionals, and promote innovation aimed at improving outcomes, decreasing health disparities, and developing implementation strategies for evidence-based, integrated practice for FQHCs and other safety-net primary care practices nationwide.

  Role and Responsibilities:

  Perform research related to Weitzman’s priority areas that support current and future programming and policy work. Examples of prior policy-oriented research initiatives include: community violence and trauma; maternal-child health; primary care workforce development; digital health; primary care and public health integration; school-based health; and, patient-centered care and experience.

  Prepare and write literature reviews, policy briefs, and other deliverables as directed by Weitzman’s senior staff.

  Contribute to proposal writing and business development to further support the growth and financial sustainability of Weitzman’s policy efforts.

  Support Weitzman’s staff by serving as a resource for policy-related questions and issues.

  Maintain working knowledge of current public and other health issues and policy landscapes, particularly related to the Weitzman’s priority areas.

  Required Qualifications:

  Formal Education & Certification:

  Bachelor’s degree in public health, health policy, health services research, behavioral or social science, or other closely related field. At least one year of additional professional, post-undergraduate experience preferred.

  Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  Demonstrated experience and ability to conduct health policy research, aligned with Weitzman’s strategic priorities, utilizing a variety of resources and outlets, including synthesizing information, preparing reports, summaries and presentations, and providing analysis and recommendations as appropriate.

  Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

  Ability to successfully multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.

  Demonstrated analytic skills and detail orientation.

  Track record of creativity, adaptability, personal accountability and initiative. Capacity to deal with concepts and complexity comfortably.

  Able to function independently, and support and respond to policy-related needs of senior staff members.

  Alignment with the organization’s belief that healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

  This is a fully remote position, with potential for occasional travel.

  Writing Sample Required

  A writing sample is required for this position. A solo- or first-authored writing sample demonstrating experience with policy-related analysis is preferred.
