Purpose of Position
Provides maintenance support to all City of Laurel departments.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide carpentry services for all city facilities
• Understand and operate proper carpentry tools to utilize
• Utilize appropriate supplies as instructed
• Complete projects in a timely manner
Install and remove Christmas decorations
• Determine appropriate location for decorations
• Install decorations
• Ensure decorations are functioning properly
• Remove decorations
• Store decorations in appropriate location
Maintain all city buildings
• Complete work orders from other City departments
• Make repairs or improvements to facilities
• Complete all final work order paperwork
• Paint facilities, as needed
Maintain athletic field concession stands
• Receive work order from Parks and Recreation Department
• Make repairs or improvements to concession stands
• Complete all final work order paperwork
Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code)
• Knowledge of residential and commercial wiring
• Knowledge of running conduit -- 1 ½" and above
• Knowledge of available changing light ballasts, bulbs, switches, and plugs
• Knowledge of running computer wiring
Perform other duties as directed
Job Context
The General Maintenance Worker is a full-time, permanent position in the Facilities Maintenance Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. The person in this position is supervised on a regular basis and has no supervisory authority. The General Maintenance Worker works regular hours most of the time with occasional overtime and night work when the workload demands it. There is no shift work involved with this position. The person in this position is not on call. The position has accountability for monetary, fiscal, safety, and legal issues related to the work for which this position is responsible.
Certification, Education, and Experience
Certification: A valid Mississippi Driver's license is required for this position.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in this or a related field is strongly recommended
