Emergency Department is a fast-paced, high acuity unit providinghigh-quality adult emergency care. Denver Health Emergency Department is oneof the nation's leading Level I Trauma Centers, with one of the highestsurvival rates in the country for the most severe injuries. Our facilityprovides high-quality medical and trauma care where nurses will find theirskill set is continually growing. Our ED consists of 57 beds,nurse-to-patient ratio is1:3-4, accommodating for critical patients.Additional support staff include emergency medical technicians (EMT),phlebotomists, EKG technicians, in-person interpreters and social workers.
Job Summary
Under direct supervision of the RN APP and/or physician, provides patientcare in accordance with treatment plans. Communicates changes in patientconditions within the scope of practice to RN. Collaborates with the RN andother members of the healthcare team. Participates in patient care activities.
Essential Functions:Obtains vital signs and differentiates normal from abnormal findings. Reportsabnormal values or conditions to the RN. (EX. Abnormal VS, bleeding,safety concerns, family issues. (20%)After completion of the Denver Health Phlebotomy class and documentedcompetency, provides phlebotomy for patients per standard orders and incollaboration with physicians and nursing. (15%)Assists the RN in carrying out the plan of care for assigned patients. Actsappropriately in critical situations. (15%)Assists with the care coordination and safe transportation of patients throughthe ED visit. Is able to transport low risk monitored patients through thehospital. (15%)Performs transportation responsibilities when requested; transportingpatients from one area to another; delivering laboratory specimens, bloodproducts, medications and other hospital/medical items to the requesteddepartments as needed; and includes access to the pneumatic tube system totransport items, including blood products and medications, to and from thetube and the desired location. (15%)Under direct supervision of the RN and as delegated by the physician,implements care based on prioritized patient needs, assists with the plan ofcare with measurable outcome and goals for the patient/family, andparticipates in the discharge planning process. (20%)
Education:High School Diploma or GED Required
Work Experience:No previous experience required.
Licenses:BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart AssociationRequired andEMTB-EMT Basic - CO - State of Colorado Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of Emergency Department practices.Knowledge of and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments toadminister patient care.Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe workenvironment.Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships withpatients, employees, physicians and the public.Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.Ability to maintain quality control standards.Strong communication and interpersonal skill set required.Documentation of completed tasks, vital signs, procedures and notes in EHR.Documentation of patient safety observation in accordance with DH's policiesand procedures.
