Both part time and full time positions are available....Monday throughFriday Technical and inspection work related to the enforcement andinterpretation of the Massachusetts Supervision: Works under the generaldirection of the Building Commissioner. Performs varied and detailedinspection duties of a technical nature requiring the exercise ofconsiderable judgement in ensuring compliance with proper standards andthe enforcement of pertinent laws and regulations. Job Environment: Somework is performed under typical office conditions; some work isperformed in the field with exposure to variable weather conditions andthe hazards associated with construction sites and electrical wires; mayspend significant portion of work day outdoors. Operates an automobile,various hand tools, and standard office equipment. Makes frequentcontact with contractors, builders, electricians and other members ofthe building community, other towns departments and boards, propertyowners, and the general public. Errors could result in delay and loss ofservice, damage to property, endanger public safety, have legal and/orfinancial implications, and cause adverse public relations. EssentialFunctions: Inspects and witnesses tests of new and existing wiring andelectrical installations. Issues permits for electrical installations,alteration and repairs; inspects all electrical installations in processof construction, alteration or repair for which permits are issued.Investigates complaints of alleged violations and takes appropriateaction as required. Examines plans, advises builders, electricians;makes field inspections; attends meetings and hearings. Coordinatesinspections and appointments; responds to phone and mail inquiries.Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates.Education and Experience: High school graduation and five years?experience as a iourneyman electrician or master electrician; or anyequivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledgeof wiring theory and practices and of state and local laws andregulations pertaining to electrical work. Ability to read and interpretblueprints, drawings, and plans; ability to prepare necessary diagrams;ability to read and enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, andimpartially. Ability to maintain complete and accurate inspectionrecords and to prepare reports. Ability to communicate efficiently inoral and written form. Physical Requirements: Occasional moderatephysical effort demanded in making inspections. Major portion of shiftspent in the field. Frequently required to climb and reach. May berequired to walk and stand approximately 6 hours per day.
