Key Responsibilities:
Conducts training programs to assure compliance with local andfederal laws; investigates and maintains accident data; understandsand implements department and driver compliance with the DOT FederalMotor Carrier Safety Regulations; offers best practices for theschool bus operation using the National Association of PupilTransportation as the model; maintains and affects knowledge offederal OSHA and EPA safety requirements; and coordinates safetycompliance with the University compliance officer and RiskManagement Officer.Assists Manager with supervisory oversight of TransportationServices personnel and operations; assists Manager with thedevelopment and implementation of management systems; providesleadership, direction, and training to staff, ensuring the effectiveutilization of personnel; and is responsible for developing staffingplans under the direction of the Manager.Develops criteria and conducts internal investigations of complianceissues; disseminates written policies and procedures; interacts withUniversity compliance officials; and trains employees to provideknowledge and skills to safely perform their job tasks and carry outsafety responsibilities.Conducts internal investigation of compliance issues; filesappropriate reports with regulatory agencies; disseminates writtenpolicies and procedures related to compliance activities; ensuressafety procedures are designed and implemented to identify, evaluateand correct unsafe conditions or behaviors that threaten personalsafety and/or injury or illness or violate safety health codesand/or case property damage.Conducts classroom and behind-the-wheel bus driver training for thepurpose of presenting, reinforcing, and/or developing bus driverskills.Conducts staff training and issues certifications in CPR and FirstAid; and maintains professional instructor certification in CPR andFirst Aid.Maintains up-to-date Master Vehicle Fleet Inventory listing; assurescurrent license renewal and medical certification for commercialdrivers; and implements registration and tag renewal of Universityowned vehicles.Presents campus wide Safety and Defense Driving workshops annually.Develops and monitors protocol for prevention of motor vehicleaccidents.Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (i.e.,licensing certificate, medical expiration dates, mileage, log books,etc.) for the purpose of documenting and providing an up-to-datereference and audit trail.Monitors fleet preparedness, working closely with the FleetMaintenance Shop for the District of Columbia vehicle inspectionsand vehicle readiness.Evaluates performance of bus drivers and applicants for the purposeof ensuring that skill levels are met and are in compliance with thelocal and FMCSRs; and conducts road tests of driver applicants.Assures the safety compliance of the fleet maintenance garage.Investigates accidents/incidents involving University vehicles;reports to accident sites as required; and develops and submitsaccident reports to the University Risk Manager and departmentmanagement.Assesses and assists with the evaluation and safety of school runroutings as requested.Implements the random drug and alcohol testing program in compliancewith DOT. Maintains and monitors operations involving the gasoline and dieseldispensing pumps, to include all appropriate maintenance,inspections, record keeping and ordering of product.Maintains knowledge of all federal and local safety regulations andlaws.Delivers and facilitates structured safety and regulatory training &development programs and initiativesUpdates materials as dictated by changes in regulations and/orprogramsProvide hands-on demonstrations, verification and testing of safeand proper use of equipmentProvides coaching, reinforcement of safety policy and procedures incooperation with EHS departmentPerforms administrative duties to track completion of training,scheduling of classes and resources, compile and prepare statisticalinformation on training program statusEnsure the delivery of high quality, innovative and engaging OSHAconstruction safety coursesOther duties as assigned or requestedKnowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
Minimum of five years of experience in conducting safety training inconstruction, manufacturing, or heavy industry is required
Demonstrated mastery of a company safety training program and contentdelivery is required
Team facilitation skills and the ability to work effectively incross-functional settings
Advanced education in EHS
Bilingual Spanish preferred
OSHA 10- or 30
